Overall our experience as a group was so lovely. The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff (all of them) so attentive, kind, and punctual. It’s an experience worth having. Highly recommend.
When looking at the menu it moves from light to heaviest as you go down the list. We were a group of three and ordered a total of 8 plates, and it was too much food.
We all ordered drinks. I had the Mockingbird Mocktail. It was a 5/5. I really enjoyed it. Another ordered a Long Island, which they do different by making their own cola, which is more herbal. It’s really nice. And the last drink which was also really good was the Finale Word (similar to the Last Word on the menu but made with bourbon).
Dinner items
Bread Service: it was warm, fresh baked, and the butter was a nice touch. It was nice way to start the meal.
Twice Cooked Egg: this was probably the best salad I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this salad. It was so lovely and my favorite dish of the whole meal.
Smoked Fish Cakes: as someone who is not a huge fish fan these were made very well. Seasoned well and I like that they were not a heavy coated and deep fried cake.
Fried Potato Salad: this was my least favorite menu item. I felt as though the flavors all together didn’t work great. It felt like a lot and a bit heavy.
Pork Belly: this was an interesting take on spices and flavors. It was an overall interesting combination that works well. The pork belly itself was cooked very well. It was delicious.
Goat Confit: I wish I had liked this more. The goat was fried and a bit too crispy for my liking. I might not order it again, but it was worth trying.
Amish Chicken: The onion jam was a bit salty for me. The chicken itself was good well but heavily coated in spice. The spatzle was good. I honestly preferred that over the chicken itself.
Sundried Spinach Fettuccine: I enjoyed this dish a lot. It was very spring from me. It was somewhat difficult to share because the pasta itself was hard to serve with a spoon. I would...
Read moreMy husband and I were so impressed with this place! It was so bright and cheerful! We loved the open kitchen. The service was top 3 restaurants we have ever been to. Katy was phenomenal and so attentive. We let her decide what we should eat since we are foodies and not picky.
Katy started us off with the crab salad which wasn't on the menu and the steak tartare. The crab salad was creamy and had that pop of acid from the grilled mandarins and yuzu. The steak tartare was earthy and I loved the pickled mushrooms. That black garlic purée gave it a sweetness and funkiness it needed. The second plates were the twice cooked egg and spare ribs. The twice cooked egg was a great idea! The salad was so rich! I loved the Brussel sprouts and mix of greens, but it was super sweet. It needed acid and salt. I was looking for some relief from the richness of the salad. The ribs were amazing! They were sticky and perfectly cooked. That raw potato salad was addicting. It was crunchy, had such a great umami flavor, and spicy. The combination was amazing! Our last plates were the pork belly and the sweet potatoes. Cherry bacon jam on those sweet potatoes was so delicious that I wanted to tip the bowl and drink it all up! The tartness of the cherries, salt from the feta and the smokiness from the bacon mixed with the sweetness of the potatoes was perfection! The pork belly was cooked nicely and I liked the spiciness and pickled vegetables. It would have been better if we didn't have the spare ribs. We finished with the pudding! This is not your mom's pudding. It was thick and rich and packed with flavor. I love the basil oil and rosemary in the cookies. It needed that relief from the powerful vanilla pudding.
This was by far top 3 restaurants we have ever been to. The service, food, and ambiance was exceptional! We would definitely come back if we are in Detroit!...
Read moreThis is a hard review to write as I don't like to be critical. However, I do want to share my experience in hopes they take it to heart. 1st of all, let me start with the positive. Service people were very friendly. Everyone had a smile on their face and seemed to be in a good mood. 2nd, the options are fun. There were 4 of us and we ended up with 11 dishes. Many of them were really delicious. The Thai meatballs and fried potato salad were voted the best from our group. Now, for the critical part. Several of our dishes were EXTREMELY salty. The Kobe beef short ribs were so salty, we couldn't even finish them, which is a shame given that the quality of the meat was excellent. The gnocchi were the same. I know in fine dining, salt is critical in bringing out flavor, but it's as if they accidentally spilled a tablespoon of salt directly into our dish. It was surreal how bad it was. At first, I didn't want to mention it within my group, but once it came up, everyone said the same thing. It completely ruined the meal. Cocktails were great. Dessert was perfect. However, I cannot recommend this place or even consider returning with this salt issue. To make it even worse, we were all up in the middle of the night drinking water because of the meal we had. I'd be interested in getting feedback on whether they had a new chef of this is just the way they...
