I debated saying anything for a while but the incident has been bothering me for a while and I deem it important enough to speak about. this happened end of 2021- early 2022 I was completely racially profiled by two white women in this store afterwards I felt so upset I called my mom . I never returned I didnāt buy anything and I will never go back to this store. I went in looking to spend at-least $500-$1000 as Iām a collector of vintage/vintage inspired pieces. As I went in I started grabbing dresses I liked each time I grabbed a garment a pregnant woman employee took them out of my hands saying she would āhold them and put them away for me ā no I wanted to hold them to narrow it down to what I wanted. Each time I grabbed something she snatched it out of my hands and hid it from me. Looking back she thought I would run out of the store with the garments!. Second incident same day as I tried to chalk the rudeness of the other lady i tried to convince myself well maybe sheās having a bad day and sheās pregnant but no it was racism second incident solidified it for me. I was looking at the brooches and there was another lady staring at me and I could see the reflection on the glass didnāt ask if I needed help nope she just stared at me behind me to make sure I wasnāt putting a brooch in my bag once I saw her staring at me angrily that was the final straw. I immediately left. I will never spend my money where Iām not wanted .even though there was other people that needed help in the store I was the only black person and those workers focused on me in a demeaning way. If you donāt want black people in your store donāt set up shop in DETROIT I will never forget how this made me feel and I will never let it go. I hope this establishment has gotten better...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI always have a wonderful experience at the Peacock Room! This time I visited the store (a couple days ago on Sunday December 11) inside the Park Shelton because I needed a vintage 1920's Harlem Renaissance dress for a gala on Saturday December 17. There was a nice selection in different styles and colors that fit well within the amount that I wanted to spend. In fact, I ended up purchasing my silver glittery dress, jeweled headband with feather, and a gorgeous silver and black lacy stole all for just under $200. And Sarah (not sure if this is the correct spelling, maybe Sara) was wonderful! She was helpful, gave advice based on fit, my event, and the look I was going for, and so patient. Even as closing time arrived she wanted to make sure I had what I was looking for. The Peacock Room is a class act not just in their amazing merchandise, but in the top notch customer care! P.S. My gloves (which matched perfectly!) were either my grandmother's or my great aunt's from Crowley's department store, my earrings were my mom's, and my shoes, pearls, and bracelets were...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA friend highly recommended The Peacock Room for me to find my mother of the groom dress. I could seriously not be any more pleased with this jewel of a store! My husband has been hospitalized for 2 months so I was delayed and stressed.
I found multiple dresses and ultimately found EXACTLY what I envisioned. The prices were reasonable! I got my jewelry and they even let me try on the pierced earrings!
The saleswoman, Sanaa, was so helpful and as excited as I was about the dress! Service was 5 star! I was in and out in an hour. They carry sizes 0-22 also. Their selection is very large, both with short, cocktail and formal dresses.
I found the dress on the internet a bit cheaper but I would rather pay a bit more and be able to try it on, try on jewelry and do one-stop shopping.
This store is truly a jewel in...
