Update: So four days after my initial visit, I decided to bring my mom. I raved to her about the food, and we waited 20 mins for a table in the rain with a lot of other people. Upon entering a woman eyeballed us (looked us up and down) and asked if we were next. She seated us at a tiny half table in the corner even though there was a full size table right across and quickly left. We looked around and noticed we were the only ones with such a small table. I wanted to request the larger one but my mom didn’t want to make a fuss. And they quickly placed a white couple in the full table. We put in a order of guacamole and received bowls half full, again we checked other ppl’s and saw they were filled the brim. Like are you kidding me??? And because we ordered the Parrillada el rey del taco we had absolutely no room. I do believe the staff is bias, if you are not white or Hispanic they treat you as non existent. A 15% gratuity was also added to the bill for a party of only two ppl, mind you my previous visit that was not the case. The funny thing about that is I usually tip %20. But they must not have trusted that I would leave one. Even on the way out the manager said goodnight the patrons in front of us but ignored me and my mother. Which is very disheartening. I believe the only reason I had a good experience last time I was here was because my pale Hispanic boyfriend was with me, and even then our waitress at that time only addressed him and completely ignored me the entire time.So because of how you have made me feel as if my money isn’t as good as anyone else’s, I can no longer dine here. Not another sale will be made off of me. Still I will admit the food is good.
I can’t believe I was so against coming here. This spot is great! The parking is a nightmare so I suggest parking in a lot close to it but the FOOD! The food is addictive 🤤 I can confidently say, I think Del Rey has the best tacos I have tried thus far in Atlanta. Looking forward...
Read moreAnother outing with friends at El Rey Del Taco! A simple, unassuming but fantastic Mexican restaurant with all of the classics and some dishes off the beaten path.
As is standard, we were served free chips and salsa to begin the meal. The chips were very clearly freshly made and deliciously salty and crispy. The salsa was spicy and not my favorite, but fairly standard. We order queso and guacamole to start. The queso was flavorful, but maybe a little runnier than I tend to like. The guac was FANTASTIC. Lots of flavor!
We also got several of the "mini's tacos...there was NOTHING mini about the except the price! $3 for a taco STUFFED with filling. We got the chicken, carnitas, carne asada, and al pastor and they were all 🔥🔥🔥. By this point, we were all basically full and our main dishes hadn't even come yet 🫣
We got several different versions of the fajitas: the Mexicana (carne asada, chorizo, cheese, peppers, onions), the chicken, and the carne asada. They were all piping hot, flavorful, and had a smoky char to them that was out of this world. I got the "garlic shrimp" which was incredible. The shrimp was well cooked and the onions had this incredibly sweet garlicky taste. Highly recommend this dish.
We also, of course, had a couple margaritas. They were yummy, but not the star of the meal (maybe they would have been if we had a couple more 😉)
Right off of the MARTA Route 39 so very easy to access via public transit also, bonus...
Read moreI knew I was going to be running a few errands in the area so I planned ahead of where I wanted to eat with the help of my dad. I chose this restuarant after checking out the Yelp reviews. I came in and although it was pretty full, there were still some seats available. I was seated with a menu. I knew I wanted to tacos and a margarita. By the time my server came over with chips and salsa I knew what I wanted to order. I ordered the octopus taco and mushroom taco both on four tortilla, as well as a shrimp taco on corn tortilla and a texana margarita. Chips could have used a little salt but other than the chips and salsa were tasty. My tacos and margarita came out within maybe 10 minutes and I was so excited. Everything looked amazing and I almost forgot to take a picture before I ate lol. All the food was seasoned well, although the octopus was a little tough. The corn tortilla was also tasty. I typically don't care for corn tortillas but after having so many fresh corn tortillas in Mexico recently I decided to give it a try. It wasn't as good but it was good enough that I would give it another try in the states. The margarita was a little weak but I understood when I saw my receipt. She gave me a regular instead of a texana. Although that's not what I ordered, I didn't mind too much. I finished all my tacos and paid about $20 for my meal which I thought was a pretty good deal. I will definitely be back again to try the texana margarita...
