HAN KUK JIP — Restaurant in Doraville

Yesterday, was our first time coming here. We were greeted warmly by Carlos, his photo is included, he made our first time here the best. He is extremely nice, very laid-back an over all great person. I placed an order for the chicken omurice. As we waited, he was very genuine in his conversation and talking about his holiday plans. While we waited for our order to be prepared, any person that came in he stood up and walked over to greet them. His customer service is top tier. When my order was ready, the young man that prepared it for me and bagged it for me, brought it personally to my table. Unfortunately, I did not get his name however he was extremely nice as well. The chicken omurice smelled absolutely heavenly and is absolutely delicious along with the wonderful salad I highly recommend coming here to try the food. When you see this review, and go to the restaurant. Please make sure to say hi to Carlos for me. Thank you in advance for doing that. I know we will definitely come back here when we are back in the area. If, I could give him higher than a five-star rating I would. 💜

Update: 12/29/24 We came back to Atlanta and decided to dine in. We were greeted warmly by Carlos and they were extremely busy yesterday. We ordered the bulgogi rice balls, bulgogi ramyeon, bulgogi fries and the half and half chicken with sweet & spicy, sweet cheese and another half order with lemon pepper, mango juice and sprite. We ordered the rice cake skewers to go. The bulgogi ramyeon is fire. The bulgogi meat is tender and the broth and noodles are seasoned well. Absolutely delicious. The bulgogi rice balls are the best I have ever had so far. Absolutely packed with flavor and meat throughout the ball vs. just in the center. I would highly recommend ordering them. The bulgogi fries are delicious as well. I loved the bulgogi ground beef and pickled jalapenos. The fried chicken is fantastic. My favorites in order: Sweet and Spicy, Lemon pepper and Sweet Cheese. The chicken is cooked to order and is served piping hot. We ate the rice cake skewers when, we arrived back home in North Carolina. They're delicious sweet and spicy. 3 of my friends and I try a new restaurant every 3rd Thursday of the Month. We've been doing it now for about 6 years. The name "snack bar" does not do justice to the culinary delight that this place turned out to be. Certainly in the top 10 for places we have tried. It started with a complimentary cup of soup. (I don't know if it changes as our rule on these outings is to try a place we have never been. The soup we were given was a potato and mushroom soup. It was like liquid mashed potatoes.. so creamy and flavorful. (I'm sure a good bit of Chicken broth in it.) was a delightful surprise. Then the meals.... The kimchi Soup was outstanding, the meat in it so tender and flavorful. The (Harue Omurice) omelet over fried rice with salad and gravy was huge and very tasty. The US Army Ramyeon Soup (read the menu for the story of how it became part of the Korean menu.) Was very generous portion and full of flavor. My meal the pork sandwich (Tonkatsu) had a very large, delightfully extra crunchy outside while the meat was still tender and moist on the inside. (my only unexpected and not favorite thing, they make their own mayo and it's pretty sweet.. However, I rolled with it as a new flavor profile and it did compliment the Tonkatsu sauce and the meat, I completely enjoyed my selection. It came with a side of fries. I'm a picky fry guy, These were PERFECT! Hot soft on the inside, crunchy salt and pepper outside... Mostly good, some not so great.

This is a minimalist decor restaurant that tries to strike the medium between quick, fast food and a nice seated dinner. The server was helpful with simple, clear explanations.

I ordered the beef gimbap, which is like a sushi roll with a little shredded beef, and a few veggies. It was an oddly flavorless sushi roll that was neither hot or cool. It actually concerns me that it seems neither refrigerated or cooked. It's like I'm putting food in my mouth but it's just because there are starving kids in the world and I don't want to waste it. In their defense, it is supposed to have a soy sauce on it that I avoided because I avoid soy.

It gets better.

Next, I had the bulgogi Rice ball. It was tasty, hot and a dramatic improvement. Again, I didn't have the soy sauce, but this was really nice. It is just what it says, some rice and shredded beef and a little bit more in a warm ball and covered with a sweet mayonnaise sauce. I thought about ordering a second one.

Instead, I ordered the fries. They were great. They have a little bit of crust that seems to be some rice flour. They were hot, crusty on the outside and tender on the inside. They went well with the spicy yum yum sauce that he brought me.
