Very fun concept. The experience was unique. I went here with my adult son. The food quality was not exceptional and the overall cleanliness could have been a little better. We ordered two sushi rolls and a plate of dumplings, and two ramen bowls. It was really fun to see the food going past on the conveyer, and ordering the food was really fun because you can use a touchscreen at your table to order as you please and then the food arrives via conveyer right to your table, then when you are done eating, if you order a certain amount of plates, you get a prize that drops down from a dispenser at your table. The prizes are all themed after the anime series One Punch Man, and consist of a lanyard, key covers and other small items. There are clear acrylic partitions between booths so it felt very well protected from germs, as well as hand sanitizer available at the entrance and the waitress, who was excellent and brought us our ginger and wasabi as well as drinks and our bill, wore a mask. The service was good, the experience was fun, the restaurant was very interesting. The reason we rated it only three stars: One of our plates had some crusted gunk on it and when I got my ramen, it smelled awful- the closest smell I could compare it to was the 4H barn at the fair. I asked my son to smell it also and he also confirmed it smelled really strange, and really bad. I asked to smell his ramen and it smelled fine. I tasted my ramen and it tasted ok, but the smell made me afraid to eat it. My son’s ramen was pork-based and mine was soy sauce-based. I know I should have said something to the waitress but I did not. I chose to not eat it and not say anything, and we still tipped the waitress. So, one could argue that I am being unfair, so I am giving all the details so you can decide. Everything else tasted fine- the dumplings were fine, my California roll was fine. My son felt his food was also ok, not bad but not wonderful. We might try it again in the future because the concept is really fun. Our friends who had tried it previously really enjoyed it and...

We went to Kura on New Years Eve. Pro tip, get the app and you can check in on your phone in advance. There was a 78 minute wait but we waited it out at home and when we got the alert, walked in and had a table in five minutes!
We had such a good time. The sushi runs on a conveyor belt past your table in little covered dishes. There’s a wide variety of rolls, nigiri, fish, beef, even desserts! There are small signs in front of each one to tell you what’s coming so you can grab it and pop it on your table.
Sometimes, by the time they reach you, all that’s left of a particular item are the empty containers. Then, you can use the screen above your table to make a special order and get exactly what you’ve been waiting for!
When you place an order like that, there’s a special conveyor belt above the other one that zips your order out and it stops right at your table. It’s adorable and feels like the Jetsons, lol.
The screen also makes your sushi eating a game. At five plates returned, it starts a video where your sushi meal helps a little samurai defeat monsters. For every five plates you get a new installation in his saga. For every 15 plates, you get a prize that drops down to your table in a plastic eggshell! It’s silly but hey, rewards for eating delicious food? This is my kind of game!
Plates are like $2.85 each. For my family of four we spent about $90 and were WAY overstuffed. There’s also ramen bows in addition to the sushi.
It was a great meal. My favorite sushi roll was the the Texan roll and I loved the umami beef too! I got to try some new things - frankly, I wasn’t a fan of the conch but that’s just me. It was all good quality and fresh.
Just a few days later and I was ready for more Kura sushi! We will definitely go back for the food...
Read moreAre most of you BLIND??? Health Department inspection score of 70 C did nothing to inspire confidence. HELLO??? 70 C?! That's like on the verge of being shut-down by the Health Department. And for a restaurant that serves RAW food - GROSSNESS. All those people that gave this restaurant 3, 4, and 5 stars must not care about Health Department ratings-guidelines nor are concerned about the quality of food and of restaurants. The food plates - essentially Japanese tapas - are $2.25 each...... And the NOVELTY, these food plates are brought out on conveyor belts. Slices of fish (not really fresh) and meat are SMALL, THIN and SKIMPY - the minimum that they can get away with. Selection is actually rather limited but you get a false impression of a larger variety being offered - the food is absolutely pedestrian and mediocre. The rice balls for nigiri sushi were not compacted nor 'rolled' properly resulting in them falling apart. Overall, LOW quality and careless nonchalant food preparation. Sushi and sashimi are works of art and should be lovingly prepared by trained-skilled sushi chefs who care about their art - unlike the sloppiness and lack of concern mentality regarding food preparation-presentation found at this restaurant. Service was VERY SLOW, and the waitress spilled BOTH my spouse and my drinks (and did not even offer to comp us).... if I had not deftly scuttled away in time, I would have ended up with thoroughly wet clothing. Our bill plus tax and tip for two persons was almost $40 - and we left still feeling hungry. It's your money to blow but we will NOT be returning to this AWFUL place. In comparison, Ru'sans (2.5 - 3 stars) is 5 times better than this place, and Nakato (4.5 stars) is 10 times better - and that ought to give you some food...
