I was really hoping to be able to say that everyone is right about the Cellar its delious and the perfect date night place in Dothan. But that just wasn't my experience.
Let's start with the food. It's not bad, but it's fairly pricey for what it was. I got the ribeye steak, medium rare. My wife got crab cakes. Both the steak and the crab cakes were very good! Especially the crab cakes, the steak was good, but I expected more flavor and maybe a thicker cut than what I got, but again, not bad, it was pretty good. They probably were the sides, I got roasted vegetables and french fries. The fries were delious as you would expect. But the "roasted vegetables" weren't really roasted, more like warmed. It was weird, and the flavor of them was just bland. When I saw roasted vegetables, I was expecting something with a light char to them, not burnt but a little crunch. That was not the case here. My wife got onion rings, and oddly enough, they were below par. The breading wasn't flavorful, just kind of bland.
I say all this but heres one reason you should go to the Cellar! The Brisket Nachos! I will come back for this dish alone. They were amazing, it might just be an appetizer but it was the best thing we ate here. If you go to the Cellar, do yourself a favor and get these. You won't be disappointed!
Lastly, the atmosphere fell flat. I was looking for a good date spot. But we sat in a half booth half table, sitting next to another group of people having their own meal and conversation. Like right next to us. It gave me the feeling of being in a Mcdonalds and being packed together. The rest of the building was pretty but kind of noisy and hectic. Not really "fine dinning."
And lastly, the bar was delicious. We only got one drink from there, but kudos to the bar tender it was good enough to make me wanna try and make it at home. 10/10 on that!
All together, The Cellar just wasn't worth the money. It's not bad but for that price I would rather eat...
Read moreWe had not eaten all day (due to a busy event) and were really looking forward to enjoying a meal at this restaurant. When we arrived (6 pm) the hostess said it would be a little wait unless we wanted to sit and eat at the bar. We decided to wait for a table in lieu of the bar seats,. Then she said “well it may be about an hour wait for a table”, we said no problem, we would go browse the store next door while waiting.
An hour later the hostess called and said if we wanted to be seated at a “high table” we could be seated now. So we quickly walked back over to be seated. When we got there, only one door down, the hostess said that she was just told by her manager not to seat us, that the kitchen was “overwhelmed” by a party in the back and her manager told her we could not be seated at all, unless we wanted to wait an additional hour or more for them to “catch up”
Basically saying they just couldn’t serve anyone else until they could find out if they could possibly “catch up” Who knows how long or if they would even “catch up”
Needless to say we LEFT not knowing exactly how long we could be waiting, after already waiting over an hour, practically being seated, to being told it could be an indefinite wait, not sure etc etc
Steaks take a while to cook
Not wanting to eat at 10 pm after arriving at 6pm
We LEFT AFTER ALREADY WAITING OVER AN HOUR
I guess if you want to eat here quickly take the BAR SEATS!
Horrible Experience!!! Need a manager that can manage! The kitchen was “backed up” due to a “party” If you don’t mind waiting several extra hours on top of hours already waited or more to eat! POOR customer service, POOR front desk handling! The owner needs to know that a party at 6 pm overwhelms the manager and business such that even though there are available tables they cannot serve other customers!!! People that frequent the restaurant will not keep...
Read moreWe were on our way to dothan from fort gaines, Georgia. We were having a girl’s day out. We go to Dothan and saw the Cellar. Neither one of us had ever been. We decided to try it. We go in we get seated immediately. Our waitress came almost immediately. Very friendly. We ordered. I ordered the wedge salad with blackened chicken and roasted Brussels sprouts. My friend ordered homemade crab cakes and side Cesar salad. We waited and waited and waited. The waitress came back said sorry for the wait we have a private party in the back. Ok fine we said we weren’t in a hurry. However we waited and waited yet again. Saw a couple come in seated and ordered and got their meal almost immediately. I was like what?!?! So food finally arrived. I looked at the salad and it had a very small amount of chicken for the $6 it was to add it. On top of that it was processed chicken not fresh chicken. It was clearly from a bag u thaw and throw it in. It was cold. And not blackened. I told the waitress and she said sure it is. On the side that’s the seasoning. I said no it’s the balsamic glaze. And the salad was like soup salad. Blue cheese dressing was thin and runny. I couldn’t eat it. The Brussel sprouts finally came out. They were good. My friend said the crab cakes were subpar and her salad was also like soup. Soggy croutons. The waitress did say she was waiting for the Brussel sprouts to come out to serve the salad with. Wait. What? No they should have been brought out immediately. Also she did not once fill or ask my friend if she wanted a refill on her unsweetened iced tea. They did not charge me for my food. Thank goodness. Having a private party in the back is a poor excuse. Not my problem. Staff accordingly. Very unprofessional to...
