Sooo, I made a purchase on March 31st for i store pick up (clearly ordered online). The website told me I was able to pick it up the 7th of April. I get a text saying that I could pick it up Sunday, well it’s easter and most places hold it for 7 days. I then get a text today at 12:03 am saying my ordered was canceled due to it being out of stock. I immediately called the store when it opened to check on the status of my order. A gentleman (don’t know his name) told me yeah the system does that all the time, but he assured me yes I checked it’s here. I told him I would be by Friday to pick it up and pay since the system canceled it. He said okay and hung up. I called again tonight because I wanted to make sure they would not sale it out from under me. The young lady said yeah if someone wants it we sale it, asked her what time they closed and proceeded my way to the store. I got there AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW THEY CANT FIND MY ORDER. I sat in the store for an hour trying to figure something out due to the fact this is for my daughters birthday and EVERYWHERE is selling out extremely fast. I had to settle with a kind of downgrade of the swing set I wanted plus had to buy an additional swing that the one I originally wanted and ordered. I’ve worked in retail I know how it is but it is extremely frustrating to people who order something in hopes it will be here in time especially if it’s a gift. The manager knocked $100 off but money wasn’t the issue it’s the fact I wanted a certain swing and either someone lied, or they sold the swing under me. Read moreI'm a fan of Academy, and there is nothing inheritly wrong with this store. My only complaint is how messy the store is from time to time and how hard it is to find help when you need it.
Update: The management here, at least when I seem to go, really needs to be replaced. Store is understaffed during peak hours, there are never carts (always out in the parking lot)...a big chunk of the carts are tangled together in the entrance, so you think you can have a cart, but there is no way to get them apart. And the place is STILL always trashed. I can tell the staff is working their tails off... but the managers are in another world.
The last visit, I asked to see a manager. In the 15 minutes it took for them to find her, I watched dozens....not exaggerating, dozens of people walk in, try and get a cart, only to be frustrated and do their shopping without one. I went in to make a big purchase. $200 worth of folding chairs. I had to carry the chairs around the store because I didn't have a cart. I felt like a Karen, but there really is no excuse for what was going on, when I left...I saw the cart corals in the parking lot and they were all overflowing.
When I got to talk to the manager, she made no attempt to fix the Storrs problem, but proceeded to get onto me for "walking around the store getting mad about the issue" instead of having a worker get me a cart. To be fair, I didn't have an employee ask how I was doing and offered to get me a cart, but I declined, as he was supposed to be working fishing, and retrieving one cart wasn't going to fix the issue. Read moreThe store closes at 9:30 pm during the week, I arrived at the store at approximately 8:25pm went directly to the outdoor section to purchase a firearm, looked for about 5 minutes and had decided on the firearm I wanted. When I said I'll take it I was told there wasn't a manager to sign off that she left an hour ago.....the counter guy says I didn't think you wanted to buy anything after I said are you serious, about the no manager. I then left and called the store to see if there was a manager working. Yes there are 2 or 3 is what I was told so I asked to speak to one. I explained what happened and she sounded very concerned and transferred me to another, this one didn't seem concerned at all and only said the manager that could sign off was in the back sick...really! I explained I was told manager left an hour ago and she says..well guess he was mistaken but come in tomorrow. LOL yeah ok. Very very very bad customer service besides the one manager that actually seemed to be concerned. Another customer lost. Wasted my time money and gas to be brushed off cause they didn't want to do a background check is the reason in my opinion. My driver license says I wasn't born last night. Ps I have a conceal carry permit..they would not have had to do a background check....update: called corporate and told them what happened.
