Wasabi Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in Downers Grove

After reading numerous positive reviews, my wife and I decided to dine at Wasabi Restaurant & Bar on a Friday evening. We were seated at the far end of the room near a large TV, which didn't bother us much.

Drinks: I was disappointed to find that they didn't have Macallan 12, my preferred choice. On the server's recommendation, I tried a different Old Fashioned, which was just okay. My wife, however, thoroughly enjoyed her lychee martini and even ordered a second one.

Appetizers: We started with gyoza and edamame. Both were decent but didn't particularly stand out.

Main Courses: My wife ordered the Korean beef stone bowl rice and found it satisfactory, though she mentioned that the spice level could have been more pronounced. I opted for the Captain Jack Roll, assuming it was a cooked dish. However, it turned out to contain raw salmon. As someone not well-versed in sushi menus, I believe the restaurant should clearly indicate which rolls contain raw ingredients. Unable to eat it, I spoke to our server, Stephanie, who was extremely courteous and promptly replaced it with a combo fried rice. The fried rice was flavorful, but I wasn't asked about my spice preference and found it to be quite mild.

Service: Stephanie's attentive and accommodating service was a highlight of our evening. She handled the situation with professionalism and ensured we were well taken care of.

Overall: While the evening had its ups and downs, the staff's responsiveness and my wife's enjoyable meal balanced out the experience. Clearer menu descriptions and attention to spice preferences would enhance...

Located in downtown Downers Grove, this restaurant is a decent stop off Main Street. We went later in the day for dinner.

I had the Korean beef stone bowl (pictured), wife had the short rib stone bowl and our 10yr old had the teriyaki steak children's meal. For drinks, my son had the Japanese drink with that marble thing you need to pop down into the bottle. Myself and my wife had green tea which they heat water and bring the tea bags out for you to determine how strong you want your tea..

I thought my meal was good, it had great flavoring. The rice on the bottom of the bowl will cook and be crispy and a lot of heat (not spicy but actually temperature) will be on the bottom and center. There will be a lot of oil on the bottom of the bowl as well. My wife said my choice tasted better than hers and she mentioned hers was too salty. My son liked his meal although they neglected to add the white rice that was supposed to come with it (he didn't care so we didn't bother). My wife also wanted a second cup of hot water and was going to reuse her tea bag (she doesn't need it strong) but that hot water never made it out.

All said and done, it's probably closer to 3.5 stars overall and could easily be 4 if more attention to detail was made. Meal was just over $54 so add a tip and for the three of us it's not terrible.

Where do I begin? Being greeted by Charlie, The lovely atmosphere, beautiful live plants. Being served by Charlie, wow he is very attentive and he worked magic with accommodating all of my dietary restrictions which is soy, dairy, and eggs.

The whole team assured I got what I need and they delivered tremendously I am very grateful and excited. I innerstand restaurants comes up with a specific menu and do not like to change their menu and I have to say they made it happen. What I ordered was not on the menu .

The food was good and fresh. I would definitely come again. I live all over the world and travel all over the world for food experiences. I’m glad I had a chance to stop by.
