Cellar Door — Restaurant in Downers Grove

My wife and I stopped by for her birthday this evening. This is now a favorite. Took just one visit.

Great place. I hope I don't offend the owner or anyone that works there when I say this, but it feels like a deeply rude and locals place. And I love it. It just kind of feels like you're at a friend's house.

The Smashburger is damn good ( sorry for swearing). But it was really really good. I even stood up and told the chef.

Our server, was awesome. She was hopping. The whole place was hopping. But I don't think I saw one person wait for anything. And it's not something I take for granted.

Overall, the wine selection is quite massive, though the beers offers are a bit low. There was a mistake when I ordered an 8 dollar Rosé, and they brought out a 40 dollar one instead. Of course, better wine is going to hopefully be tasty, but since I didn't order it in the first place, it's a bit of an issue. The charcuterie board appetizer was not bad, the homemade jalapeno jelly was delicious with the array of crackers and cheeses provided. I would recommend it for a relaxing evening out with friends and family, when you want to splurge on some wine and crackers! Great wine selection. Staff was friendly and very busy. It took a while for cheese plate to arrive, took a while to receive my drinks, and once I had them I felt a little rushed to clear the space for the next guests instead of being able to enjoy it. Was also given a bit of an attitude because my phone wasnt able to scan the QR code to look up the menu. Over all the food and wine was really good and I understand the strain the staff is under due to covid regulations, but a little patience makes a big difference.
