Johnny Carino's — Restaurant in Downey

Our family came to dinner and had the most pleasant waitress, Candice. She was very friendly and checked on us often.

However, our order and being able to eat our dinner was quite a mess. I don’t believe it was any fault of Candice.

My husband ordered a Johnny’s special pizza that sat at the counter for quite some time and was delivered cold. They sat us right next the the kitchen so we could see his pizza sitting there. It was pretty late and we were all hungry, so we told him to go ahead and eat.

About 10 minutes later my daughters and my margarita pizza showed up, piping hot, but the wrong size. They took it away and then the waitress brought it back a few minutes later after a powwow with the kitchen staff and said to just keep it and they would adjust the bill. It was basically a cheese pizza with a tomato slice and a few pieces of shredded basil. The crust was amazing!

The last pizza ordered was a pepperoni and sausage … never came… Candice kept apologizing and saying they were working on it. He finally just ate a piece of ours and asked if they could just order to go. At this point, it had been at least 45-60 minutes or longer. We had all (rudely) finished our food. His was delivered in a box, again, like the first one, cold. He ate a piece out of the box. Said it was good - just not hot and out of a box and way after we all had finished and we’re exhausted and full he felt obligated to just take home.

I understand accidents happen. Candice apologized every time she walked by. At no time did a manager come to apologize, offer an explanation, or even adjust our bill or offer the guest without food a salad or anything while he sat close to an hour waiting on a cold pizza. $90 for 3 small pizzas 2/3 served cold and sporadic and a salad and a few drinks - and a bad experience.

We dine here periodically as you can typically get in pretty fast even on a Friday night when all the other restaurants in the center have a long wait. Now we see why.

If I can give zero stars for food I would, when we arrived we liked the atmosphere we got seated fast and our waiter was honestly really cool and awesome , we got our bread and the oil and it was delicious so I was excited for the food to arrive and boyyy was I disappointed big time honestly some of the worst food we have had at a restaurant . my wife got the baked tortellini and I got the CHICKEN PARMESAN RIGATONI FESTIVAL, the marinera sauce on the baked tortellini had no flavor no seasoning what so ever it was watery my rigatoni was well undercooked also lacked flavor All I tasted was bacon my chicken was salty and dry I only was able to take a few bites we also the fried ravioli as an appetizer and it arrived after our entres and when we got them they were greasy and nasty , we even got A side of Alfredo sauce and jalapeño Alfredo sauce and they had no taste was so ever it was shocking I never had any experience this bad like no one in the kitchen decided to taste anything, we honestly were really disappointed and when we got the check it was 83 dollars it was so bad that for the first time I asked to speak with the manager and asked if they can remove the plates from our order he was nice enough to do that but it was honestly very disappointing and we left felling really unfulfilled and regretful of choosing this place it was bad enough that even for my first time ever I’m leave a review I never do but I felt like I had to share my disappointment so people could be aware and carful here are the pictures of our plate after we finished as you can see they are full and barely touched. This place doesn't deservery the one star I gave it. My 3 kids and I decided to come to this restaurant because all the other places to eat had ridiculous wait times. We pulled up and hardly anyone in the parking lot, that should have been a warning sign. We wait 10 min to be seated. It took the waitress 10 min to finally ask us what we want to drink, but since we waited a long time, we already wanted to order as well, so we did. While waiting for out food the hostess seated 3 other tables around us. 5 min later our drinks arrive, I requested for a child cup for my 8yr old since he is prone to spilling it, the waitress comes back and while talking to the people that were seated behind us, she throws the cup on the table. The other that were seated after us started getting their food and our food didn't arrive yet and it has been now almost 30min. I asked the waitress what was going on and she said theyes were short staffed. Waited again for another 10min, my kids starving by this time, I asked the hostess to call a manager because our waitress is nowhere to be found. After talking to the manager he found out that our food ticket that the cooks get is missing. He said theyes are getting our food ready now, our waitress comes back and tells me sorry about that and am I happy now that I spoke to the manager.
