Unfortunately I have to give a bad review to this place. We went there thinking it would be a good experience, but it wasn't. They got our order wrong and we pointed out that this is not what we ordered, but the girl just stood there and said this is it. When I asked if what she was holding was what we ordered, she acknowledged that it was different from what we ordered, but she then just stood there and looked at us, and did nothing to correct the problem. Was she told to behave that way? Was she lacking in common sense? Did she not recognize that when the store fills the order wrong, the store should at least offer to fix the problem? On a positive note, the ice cream tasted good, BUT considering the price for the tiny quantity, it's far too expensive. As one other Reviewer pointed out, the size "small" should be called "micro" size. Additional issues: there's a courtyard with tables, but there are only a few tables there. The area could easily hold 5 or 6 more tables. So we had to stand while eating. I hate to write such negative reviews, but unfortunately this place deserves it, especially after I saw so many other 1-star and 2-star reviews that reveal that these same problems (involving subpar workers) have been ongoing for the last 7 months. One last thing: If the owner is going to respond to this Review with a canned response, like in many of the other bad Reviews, I'd say don't bother. Instead, the owner should spend his or her time fixing...
Read moreHandel's Ice Cream in Downingtown is a serious contender for the "Best Ice Cream in Downingtown" award (if such an award existed, and frankly, it should). Their ice cream is so fresh, I swear I saw a cow churning it while I was ordering. The flavor selection is vast – it's like they raided Willy Wonka's ice cream factory. I wrestled with the choices for a good ten minutes before landing on the Buckeye (a peanut butter lover's dream come true, practically overflowing with chocolate-covered peanut butter goodies) and the Pistachio (so many pistachios, I felt like I was crunching on tiny green jewels). Both were ridiculously good.
Now, here's the slightly chilly part (pun intended). Handel's is currently operating without indoor seating, which, let's be honest, makes enjoying their frozen masterpieces a bit of an Olympic sport when the temperature dips. I get it, space is tight, but maybe a few strategically placed heat lamps or a temporary "igloo" dining area could transform the winter ice cream experience from "polar bear plunge" to "cozy cocoa by the fire." Just a thought. Despite this minor logistical challenge, the ice cream itself is so good, it's almost worth braving the elements. Almost.
So, four stars for now, Handel's. Get some heat lamps, and you'll have all five faster than you can say...
Read moreHave you wanted to try a new ice cream place recently? Handel's ice cream is one of the best ice cream shops I have ever been to. It is always fresh, homemade, and incredibly delicious. They are open every day of the week from 11:00-10:00, which makes Handel’s even better.
The ice cream is made fresh almost every day—which keeps the flavor and makes it taste even more amazing. The sugar and waffle cones are crunchy and are never stale because those also are made fresh. There has never been a time when I went there and the ice cream was stale or plain. The shop is very clean and even has an outdoor area to enjoy a delicious treat.
The ice cream is homemade and they have been making it since 1945. There is a very wide variety of flavors to choose from—, there are over 30, which is way more than any other ice cream shop. Each and every one of them are flavorful and delicious.
The ice cream is incredibly delicious—it is fresh, and there are so many flavors. Every time I go there, the workers are nice and the ice cream comes out fast. With the amount of flavors they have, you are sure to find one that you will love.
I highly recommend this amazing ice cream shop to anyone who wants to try something new because it is by far the best ice cream shop I have ever been to, and I have never had a...
