Where do I even begin!! This place and their food is the beeās knees!!!šš»šš»Everything was bloody good!š
On a random Sunday morning after watching āThe Gentlemanā on Netflix, we craved some real British food. After doing some searching, āThe Great British Baking Companyā showed up with the highest ratings so we decided to check them out. Unfortunately, they are located in Dripping Springs so that means itās a 45 minute-or-so drive for us (from Round Rock), but hey I (or shall I say my husband) will drive for food (for me š). We secured their food online, and got there almost at their closing time (they close at 3PM on Sunday). We got an order confirmation and notification that our food was ready to pick up while we were on the way.
When we got to the restaurant, our food was packed and ready for us, but we werenāt ready since they had so many things at the displays that triggered my additional appetite so we picked out some more stuff. We had to make sure we had enough food to make it a worthwhile trip! This place is on a side street off of the highway and itās such a quaint little shop with 5 tables. They have hand pies/pastries, soups, coffees/teas, cakes & sweets, and also some British snacks & goods. Oh they also do catering services as well.
When the guy (or the owner) with British accent who checked us out knew that we drove from Round Rock to Dripping Springs to try their stuff, he got us plenty more of other hand pies and sweets to try which was really nice of him!
Love their hand pies: SPICED LAMB SAUSAGE ROLL: So delicious with perfect amount of spices and juicy homemade sausage. HOMEMADE CHICKEN CURRY: Itās not your typical curry. The aroma of their curry gives you a TEX-MEX spice but the taste was more like a mild tomato-based curry with super tender & light smoky chicken. HAM & MUENSTER: Meaty & cheesy good. JALAPEĆO & CHEDDAR SAUSAGE ROLL: It has got some kick and their homemade sausage was juicy and so good. STEAK SLICED: Rich, delicious , a lot of meat, and gives you that Sunday homemade pot roast vibe. CHICKEN POT PIE: Actually my favorite as itās so good a lot better that typical American pot pies. It had the perfect creaminess, not too salty, and the chicken was super tender and scrumptious!!šš»šš» SWEETS: we also got their cookies which were delicious, especially the MILK CHOCOLATE TOFFEE SEA SALT COOKIE, SMORE CARAMELLOW DELIGHT, FRENCH APPLE TART (it was divine šš»), and last but not least STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING (itās a MUST!! It was so delish I couldnāt stop eating. I will have to get my own next time instead of sharing one with my husband because itās that good)! By the way, their pies didnāt leave us with weird taste in our mouth (like oily & fatty feeling) like most of pastries/pies we ever tried which is a major plus!
All in all, you NEED TO make time to check them out. There are other things to do while youāre in Dripping Springs like Deep Eddy Vodka Tasting Room, winery, and Golf courses as well so make a trip and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI drove from over an hour away so solely depend on google and their website for the times of operation. Both say they open at 7AM on the day I went (yesterday- Friday). I arrived there and they were not open and so I sat there waiting to see if they were running late. When employees arrived they gave me dirty looks as to why was I there at 7:15. They now open at 8, so I sat there until they opened at 8 to get my goodies. When I mentioned the times were wrong on google and their website, they blew me off and said oh well times are on the door, I said well when Iām an hour away I canāt easily look at the times on the door before making the drive but hope you have a great rest of your day. All this to say, I was NOT very pleased with the employees attitudes and lack of customer service.
The food is great and that will be the only reason I make that drive again but will have another purpose of the drive not solely for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI stumbled upon The Great British Baking Company shortly after moving here, and Iāve been back more times than I care to admit. Sausage rolls and hand pies have once again become foundational to my diet ā which, despite how it sounds, is a net positive. British people are biologically engineered to thrive on sausage rolls. Iāve never felt stronger. My energy is up, my hairās shinier, and Iām sure this place is responsible.
The food? Outrageously good. Dangerously good. A warning though: if you ever visit the UK, donāt expect it to taste like this. I recently went back and had to endure the local Greggs selection. It was... sobering. I made it through, barely, and with emotional support from this bakery upon my return.
Service is friendly, the atmosphere is cozy, and the whole place smells like nostalgia and triumph. Easily five stars, and thatās only because they donāt let you give more.
God save...
