I’ve been to Turcottes a four times, ordered takeout when friends are nearby and recommended to many people. I live in Buda and make the trek there when I’m looking for a good sandwich.
The 2 stars are from last Thursday when I excitedly took a good friend there to try it. When we arrived, they were short staffed and advised us they only had cold sandwiches. I understand being short staffed and we were fine with that since I’d been wanting to try their cold subs (I usually have a French dip or Philly) so we stayed.
The bartender was friendly enough at first, then acted inconvenienced when we asked if we could split the check up after ordering two drinks and two sides. While there, I was gushing about Turcottes to two other guests and decided to get the meatball sub, they had ordered it too. She somehow missed that I asked for the meatball sub, when she took our order, which I didn’t realize until later.
What kicked off the frustration about the experience was that she started cleaning the floors before grabbing a cold side we had ordered much earlier, it was 6:30! I had to check what time they closed, 9pm btw. She continued cleaning and I had to ask about the sub to which she replied that I never ordered it. Mind you, my friends sandwich had already been dropped. The meatballs weren’t hot, the cheese was not melted and the food was not what I’ve experienced in the past. I wouldn’t have been so frustrated about the fact she was cleaning had everything we ordered been delivered, we were made to feel welcome and not like an inconvenience, aside from it being 2.5 hours before closing. Now I’ve worked in the service industry and side work so long before closing while there are guests without their complete orders is not something I’m used to (unless you’re cut early, but there were only two employees) the place was NOT busy.
I usually keep my mouth shut and deal with the hand I’m dealt, but I had to let her know. When I expressed my frustration, I received a half hearted apology and could tell she couldn’t wait to get us the hell out of there. I wouldn’t even say it was a “fair” experience. This makes me question if I ever want to return, and now not sure about all the recommendations I’ve given to people about the shop. I truly hope their experiences were much better than mine this last time I visited. I didn’t even bother with ordering anything from the butcher shop, not that she offered to assist when I mentioned that was my intention from the start and when talking to her about my experience at the end. Very...
Read moreI had always wanted to try this place. I am a big fan of a good Deli. If you put the address in Google Maps, it takes you to the back of the restaurant. I go around to the front and wait at the counter. I had a pick up order through another app I had purchased. I had figured I would also order myself dinner from this place as well. There was an older guy who was working the grill who took the order of the guy in front of me. I was looking over at the menu and when it was my turn, I tell the guy I have a pick up order. He calls over a woman and tell her I was here for the pick up order. She tells me, "Just a minute." She goes to the walk in cooler and hands me a container of raw seasoned chicken and puts it in a bag. She hands it to me and does not say anything else. I was ready to place a dinner order in addition to the pick up order. She then walks away from me. She never said thank you, or " is there anything else I can get you?" Nothing.
I found it hilarious that they handed me a tub of seasoned raw chicken. I had posted a picture of what I got from here on the site and the folks who had also previously ordered from this place also mentioned that it was very rude thing to hand me. I understand you have a business to run. If the woman was a tad bit more friendly, or spoke up I would have ordered more food, instead I felt like I was wasting their time. I did end up taking the chicken and throwing it in the crock pot to freeze and use later.
To the owner, I am thankful that I got to try your place with the app I ordered from. I was not expecting "Filet Mignon". The chicken went to good use and I cooked it when I got home. I actually felt guilty that I was getting a bag from your place and wanted to give your business more love by ordering more food. When your employee just handed my bag and walked away in a rude manner, do you think that would make someone wanna pipe up and go, "Excuse me, can I also place an order to go?" Overall, your place looks fantastic. It was clean, well stocked and the menu looked wonderful. If I was just rating this place on that, you would get 5 stars all the way. I never even got a chance to order or try anything else, I can only go by the level of service I received which made me feel like I was wasting the...
Read moreWe Ordered 1 ruben and 1 roast beef sandwiches, 1 soda, and 1 one order of fries on Sunday July 28th at 12:22pm for dine in. Place had about 10 people but room to sit. 10 minutes after we ordered people coming in were being told that it would be between 35 to 45 minutes for them to get food if they wanted to wait which they did not. Asked the counter/bartender if it was really gonna be 35 to 45 minutes for two sandwiches and she went and checked with the lone worker in the sandwich prep area and he said 15 minutes or so and was told they were down a person. 38 minutes after we ordered we got our order of fries. 10 minutes after that we got our sandwiches so almost an hour for the complete meal to show up at our table. We did notice the bartender/order taker helped some in clean up, etc but not in food prep. We assumed she was not trained in that aspect. A few of the people sitting were waiting for take out orders, none of which were more than one bag when they finally got their food. Sandwiches were tasty and large portions but not worth $37 and 45 minute plus wait on a non busy day. Obviously short staffed and stressed out workers and not crossed trained to handle hiccups in staff shortages, no apologies for the...
