If you want to see the old charm of Dubuque that you heard your grandpa talk about, this is your chance. It's a hidden gem among the downtown bars that try and give off the charm. Paul's just oozes retro cool. They have stuffed animals on the walls, and cold beer in the coolers. If it's busy you're going to have to meet a few people while you reach over them to get a fresh beer, but that's the cool part about it. You will meet new people, and they may turn out to be friends. We came to Dubuque travelling from Chicago to Des Moines, and we were sent here by the hotel receptionist when we asked her where we could get some food. There are only a handful of items on the menu (essentially hamburgers, potato salad, maccaroni salad) - but these were great (to be honest we didn't sample the maccaroni salad because we weren't hungry anymore, but we were sure tempted to try it).
