This shop was a go-to for me during my regular trips to Duck over the past decade. The charming cottage and bookshelves made the slightly overpriced but delicious coffee worth the trip. However, the curt staff have been ruining my enjoyment of shop over that past year. During my last visit, I walked over to look at the different varieties of bagged coffee and the day’s muffin options. This was met with a sharp cashier telling me to get back in line. I was second in line at the time, with the first person currently ordering ahead of me. If the store was busy I could understand but, I was the only other person in the store at the time. The look the cashier gave me indicated that if I did not move, I would be yelled at again. Next, when I went to order my muffin and wanted a refill my Duck’s Cottage thermos, I was told that I would have to pay full price for coffee. When I purchased the thermos, I was told I would always get the refill price. With this in mind and having already been treated rudely, I did not buy any additional coffee for gifts. With the Kind Cup opening up in Corolla, I’m not sure I will be back. I used to always enjoy using my Duck’s Cottage thermos during my time away from the beach and fondly plan the next trip to Duck. I find myself using my other thermos options whenever possible because my fond memories of visits to the cottage are...
Read moreI'm not sure why the owner responded about pup cups but I think you have me mistaken for someone else. I purchased 3 drinks and few biscotti. All were not good. The coconut cold brew had zero coconut taste to it and my husband's white chocolate raspberry had very little flavor as well. Then we got the gingerbread iced coffee and that too was awful. It tasted bitter. You told me that these drinks were sweet and wouldn't need sugar. They needed sugar and more flavor, life even. I'm not sure if your ratios of syrup to the coffees are not correct but what you made us is not what we tasted or expected. I realize 3 star reviews are not wanted but even our biscotti tasted old. It bothers me so much to leave a 3 star but I had a conversation with you at your register about the sweetness of the coffee and you were very condescending and almost acted like I was wasting your time by asking - The line was not long and the coffee shop was empty when we came in so there was no reason for you to be so dismissive of...

Duck’s Cottage is located steps from a small pond and a short walk from Currituck Sound, a lagoon located in northeastern part of North Carolina also known as the northern Outerbanks. The shop is small but it is packed with books, stationary, souvenirs and of course coffee. I thought the coffee and postcards were a bit on the pricey side, but it’s definitely in a tourist area so I went ahead made the purchase.
The were a LOT of people who ordered coffee in front of me; so I was expecting a wait. But I couldn’t have been more wrong. I was handed a perfectly crafted cortado in a couple of minutes from a smiling and friendly young man. After talking to a local on the porch I learned Duck’s Cottage is also a small batch coffee roaster. After a little bit of reflection I realized I indeed enjoyed the coffee shop and the cortado was worth the extra $1.00.
