Coastal Cravings — Restaurant in Duck

I don't like giving restaurants 2 stars. This time, however, I have to. We visited on Thursday, August 20, 2015. Our party of 6 was offered an immediate table in the outdoor eating area, which was a pleasant surprise. That's basically where the niceties ended. Our daughter has several food allergies, which obviously is not the restaurant's fault. We have found that most try their best to be very accommodating. We found an item on the lunch menu which sounded good to her, and would have suited her allergy needs. When asked to serve something off the lunch menu at dinner, the waitress' response was a flat "no". Not "I will check with the manager/kitchen staff", or "we have to charge $5.00 extra" (which would have been fine). Disappointing. She could not eat. I ordered the crab cakes. They were, as another reviewer points out, very thick. This means that they had to be deep-fried, and it was obvious that the oil they were fried in was not fresh (had picked up the flavors of everything which had gone before). The centers of the cakes were cold, and the accompanying fries were served so cold that the frying oil had congealed on them. Another in our party ordered the fish and chips. Same fry oil, same cold fries. My wife ordered the mixed broiled seafood plate. It was OK, but the reliance on Old Bay Seasoning Mix for flavor did not give the depth or complexity of flavor I would have expected at this price point in this location. I won't ever complain about flavors at a restaurant, knowing that my taste in food may not be the same as the next person. But when I brought the cold food to the attention of the waitress, her response was "Oh. Sorry 'bout that". Nothing else. So sad to see restaurant staff so non-chalant about poor quality.

Why two stars? We were seated immediately, and all of the food arrived exactly as ordered.

If you go - don't sit outside. The gas station parking lot is not great atmosphere, and the flies are numerous and tenacious. Avoid the fried food altogether.

We are not likely to return. There are many better choices with better food, service, and atmosphere, all within...

Be aware they do not take reservations or move tables to accommodate large groups.

We (group of 9 ) came in at the tail end of dinner rush on a Saturday. A wait was to be expected under these circumstances. We ended up waiting about 25 to 30 minutes. There is only a small waiting area so must of us were at the bar or waiting outside.

Our group was seated, and our server for the evening was Sophie. Sophie greeted us, brought waters, took drink orders, and we looked over the menus. Even though I've eaten here many times I always look over the menu just in case something new pops up. The reason for 4 stars on atmosphere is here, as we were looking at menus we needed to use flashlights to see as the outdoor seating area was barely lit, not a big deal but was very difficult to read.

The perfect score was the food, and the service. My table had 4 steaks, all differentTemps, and a seafood basket. All the steaks were cooked to the requested temps, none were over or under cooked, the vegetables were perfect, and the baked potato was the best I've had in quite a while (loaded potato of course). And the cravings punch complimented the meal perfectly. I highly compliment the kitchen staff, they did an amazing job on our food.

Now for the service, if I could give Sophie way more than 5 stars I absolutely would. You could tell she was tired and I'm sure it was a busy day, but she greeted us like we were her first table, she was attentive, and polite right though the end. By the time our food came up we were the only group left outside, despite this we weren't rushed or felt forced to leave even though they were starting thier closing procedures (they close at 9pm).

Will definitely keep coming back, as the food has stayed consistently good, and the service made it even better. Thank you to Sophie, and the entire kitchen crew, and all the other staff members we interacted with. They made us feel...

This is a story about cravings.

I walked into the establishment and was seated in a timely fashion. When we were seated, our drink orders were also taken within a reasonable time frame. The experience was all down hill from here. One star for timely seating and one star for timely drinks. When the drinks were dropped off we were not asked for appetizers (which I saw coming). Several minutes went by in the business which was no where near busy. When our waitress returned she took all of our orders and repeated herself multiple times that she would not make the fish tacos to my liking because of complaints. This method seems extremely troubling for the business because it is basically saying “we will not make food to your liking”. After being talked out of the fish tacos that I’ve traveled several hours for, the waitress also completely ruined the timing for when we got our appetizers and our main entrees because she took all of the food orders at once. Time elapses we get our appetizers and the calamari was mediocre at best, served with chipotle mayo just like everything else on the menu (you’ll see what I mean if you go to this place which I never will again). My burger was about 2 stars as well and she forgot my side of ranch which I had to wait for. On a positive note, my friend still hadn’t gotten her food so I was able to sit and converse about the remainder of our plans for the day while we waited for her to return.
