Unfortunately, i find Grandma's Saloon to be overhyped. I brought my mom here because it's considered a Duluth must-visit, but we were underwhelmed by the food. The "famous" onion rings were nothing special. The fries were basic. We had a burger and a fish sandwich, and those were okay. I feel like i could have gotten the same food experience at Applebee's. However, the staff was friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. Chloe even ran down to the kitchen to answer a question that my mom had about a dish. I love it when staff seek out the correct information and don't just blow you off. We enjoyed the patio on the lovely sunny day, and would have been pleased to sit inside! The restaurant has so much history, so we took a stroll and looked at all of the pictures. The upstairs bar and patio area has a more limited menu than the main dining rooms downstairs, but that worked for us because we just wanted sandwiches and onion rings. The downstairs bathrooms were very spacious, clean, and modern. It may be weird to add that to a review, but we appreciated the cleanliness, especially since it's pretty much open to the public. I'm glad we stopped here, but i don't think it will be worth a 2nd visit. Tldr: food meh, service great, history amazing

Service was slow at 3pm even though it was not very busy. Food was good, drinks great. I had the Graduate, which was sweet, tangy and I loved it. I ate the Kabob as did my husband. The Kabob was on the WoW menu for $10.99 on Mondays. Our son also had a Monday $10.99 Sandwich meal special. Which we spoke to our first waitress about. Then our waitress changed, and the 1st waitress forgot to mention to us, or our new waitress, that we had already asked for the special WoW meals by name. We were charged $18 per meal and did not notice until after we had paid. The second waitress was kind and mentioned that we had to ask for the deal by name. Which we already had. She was was courteous and respectful and refunded us the eight dollars per meal for a total of $24 extra. Overall The meal was great, and the service was good, not great. I do hope to come back again. The Kabob was tender and had good flavor. Sweet potoato fries I highly recommend, however my 16yr old thought his Sandwich had too much cheese for him. My husband though thought it was good. Ribs were tender but the sauce came on the side and not on the ribs.

My boyfriend and I decided to revisit this place for our anniversary dinner and honestly I was left quite disappointed. The wild rice soup was good but I felt like the portion was small and it was lukewarm/cold. I feel like any soup should be piping hot especially on a cold October evening. The chicken pot pie was decent but it tasted very salty to me and had no crust on the bottom. I was very disappointed at the fish & chips because it was so small and the whole thing was burnt! The fries were burnt and the fish as well as seen on the photo compared to the fries that came with our burger. The fish was so small and it was heavily seasoned with salt. There was barely anything to eat on the fish except for thick, salty and burnt batter. The only thing that was good was the burger. The bill came up to 76 not including tip and I was honestly left still pretty hungry. Everything tasted greasy, heavy and very salty. The food quality and portions have decreased significantly compared to our last visit a few years ago and probably not visiting again anytime soon.

Long wait but it shows how busy Canal Park can be and that the food is good! We stayed busy with all Canal Park has to offer during the wait. Great server who was attentive and kept our drinks full. I had Rosa's Cobb Salad which was huge and delicious! Served with a breadstick thay was devoured immediately by my loved ones and was so tasty. Cheddar bacon burger was a hit with the family, it was a 1/3 lb slab of beef and a hardy helping of fries. My son enjoyed his chicken tenders from the kids meal as well. The appetizer they called Steak and Shrooms was amazing! It's smaller so you may want to get two but I could've ate that as a meal. Steak was tender, juicy and tasty. Delicious cooked mushrooms accompanied the steak and it was topped with blue cheese chunks and green onion. Served with a side of toast to soak up those delicious juices and to top with this amazing treat! Love this place! It's a must stop!

Kitschy tourist stop with so-so food. Overpriced tourist stop with pre-prepared warmed food. The waiter was honest in describing dishes and we didn’t order the much anticipated monte cristo sandwich (pre-built with slathered Mayo & re-deep fried on site - no option to leave off mayo). Wound up getting an appetizer for myself: mushrooms stuffed with wild rice and literally swimming in sauce & cheese while hubby got Mac & cheese with bacon bits, topped with cheese & bread crumbs. Both were fine, tasted exactly the same cheese sauce (!) and were definitively mass produced. They must make all profits during summer season - credit card surcharges were wrapped into total of each dish and made it difficult to figure out tip and what the actual cost was. This felt deceptive compared to what others in town are doing. We support paying a living wage and ask establishments to be up front on the menu.
