I’m surprised at the number of ppl who are saying the quality has declined and that there are less ppl......however, the long lines and full tables I see every time I visit makes me feel less inclined to believe what others are saying. No matter what day, this is always the busiest stall in the entire food court. (The pictures below were taken on Jan 1 & 14 of this year). As for quality, the dim-sum is always fresh. Sometimes I do I get slightly burnt pieces.
Actually, it’s amazing that they could prepare freshly cooked dim-sum every day of the week considering how time consuming it is to make them. Some restaurants don’t serve them on weekdays for this reason. They never serve dim-sum that were made during the weekends on stored in the freezer for the weekdays like some Chinese restaurants cough Canton House cough (well, at least CH’s manager was honest about the frozen dim-sum)
Even with the pandemic, business is still significantly better than the other stalls as I saw during my visit sometime during May. This stall was the only one that had a line (all the other stalls were like a ghost town with only one or two ppl ordering). It was actually so crowded (like 5-6 ppl in a line at a time with their families waiting at different tables) that I went to the table area at the adjacent food stall to wait. The traffic is obviously a lot less than in the past (since most ppl are getting take out, but the long line hasn’t changed). Since the pandemic, they moved the tea from the edge of the counter to inside the stall...meaning you can no longer pour yourself a cup of water/tea. You now have to ask them to provide it.
In the few times I’ve been here, I’ve never had any problems with customer service. They never got upset whenever my mom misheard the number calling. They just simply clarified what number they called, nothing more. I’m guessing the other ppl who got bad experiences with customer service were just isolated cases.
The only accusation that is somewhat accurate is the hygiene, but this is a problem with the entire supermarket, not just this particular food stall. There are also flies you have to swat away. There’s no janitor to wipe down the tables or sweep the floor so you have to do...
Read moreI drive out of the way during my limited lunch break to get the shumai and/or minced beef congee bc they're that good. The shumai pieces are huge, juicy and filling. Honestly, one order of that is enough of a lunch order for me. The minced beef congee (rice porridge, if you're unfamiliar) is so good! Definitely a comfort food, especially when you're feeling sick. My first time ordering that, I was expecting ground beef and didn't think it would be anything special. But I was so glad to be wrong bc the meat they use is some chunky cuts of beef minced to tender texture and adds such a nice flavor to the congee, which has the perfect congee consistency, imo. The portion is pretty big, which I appreciate.
I used to order the crispy roast pork, BBQ (cha siu) pork and roast duck for various friends and family, but, based on the last couple of visits, they don't taste as good as they used to before. Maybe they were having some off days, idk, but I'm happy enough to order the congee and shumai. I also recommend the fried shrimp balls and dry beef chow fun.
As far as service goes, I'm used to the straightforward/blunt demeanor of the workers at these businesses so I'm not bothered. It can get chaotic during lunch and dinner time so just plan accordingly and be patient. Bring cash if you can, bc there is a transaction fee when paid with cards.
Pro tip: when ordering to-go, always check your order before...
Read moreTerrible customer service and disappointing food.
My family and I drove 2 hours to try this place after hearing good things about their dim sum. We were really excited — until we actually got there. When I asked for a menu, the staff gave me a look like I was bothering them. Then, when I placed my order and asked about the price, the lady yelled it at me with a super rude attitude. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe she was just having a bad day — but minutes later she was laughing and chatting with her coworkers like nothing happened. So clearly the attitude is just for customers.
The worst part? I waited 30 minutes for my dim sum, while people who ordered after me — including large orders — got their food first. The food was literally sitting on the counter the whole time. When I asked about it, the response was, “Can’t you see we’re busy?” That was the final straw. I’ve never been spoken to like that as a paying customer.
When I finally got my food, it was handed to me rudely, and honestly? It wasn’t even good. Dry, bland, and not worth the hype. Even store-bought dim sum tastes better. Between the awful service and the mid food, I’m never...
