Smokey D'Z BBQ — Restaurant in Duncanville

Was googling Barbecue places a month ago near me. This place came up. Viewed them on instagram as well as the reviews on their website. Decided to go in on last Sunday. When I left I called back out of courtesy and spoke to a Derrick that Monday morning. I advised him that I don't do reviews unless it is necessary and that I talk to the person first. He never called me back. I was supposed to been going back to get some more for food He told me to call him when i'm on my way. Whoever picked up the phone was hesitant & sounded like someone that I have encountered before. I decided to do this review Because i've never got the call back as he asked for my number and apologized for what took place. The young man at the register told me it would be $15. 99 for 6 ribs and 2 sides. I ended up paying a little over $24 for 4 small partially burnt ribs, maccaroni and I had yams that had one big yam and juice, very sweet neither not good at all. The ribs had little meat on the bones and was not tender at all. Derrick stated that he believed in good customer service, but I didn't receive the customer service. There was someone there that I did not know was going to be there Who keeps up a lot of trouble. When she saw me, there was a very bad vibe that came in the atmosphere and other things took place. One thing that we should stay away from being business owners and so called people of God is drama, Gossip and rumors. These are things that will get us in trouble with God and slow down our business. God will not allow His people to spend money where they are not respected and we shouldn't allow people to bring us drama. Today I will say may the lord have mercy on all of you who were involved with what You know i'm talking about and for not getting back to me for being Overcharged And not calling me back as I was told to call when I was coming which I changed my mind. The Atmosphere had a very bad vibe After encountering Vanessa. The gestures The look she gave me when she didn't know I saw her looking at me Because of her drama and messiness outside of this business and there as a so called woman of God. Bad Character and drama will easily give you a bad name as a business. I WILL NEVER step foot in this place again. You can keep the overchared amount which was ridiculously insane because Derrick told me that I was charged wrong because of how the young man rung it up and something about being fairly new or training to the Best of my knowledge. That in itself was unfair to me. There's a lot of messy people in there who are easily swayed by people that they feel they can trust. People are coming to eat and do business and if you all can't handle people right because of what you hear, then I can guarantee you that You won't be blessed to the capacity of what God wills because of things like this. UPDATE: 2/12/24. I literally told Derrick I don't do reviews unless it is necessary because there's always a way to resolve matters and when the matter is not resolved then the review is necessary. AS I STATED IN THE PREVIOUS MESSAGE I WILL NEVER STEP BACK THERE due to all that took place in such little time when I was there. THE FOOD WAS HIGHLY NASTY AND NOT WORTH IT. IF IT WAS A PERSONAL ATTACK I WOULDN'T HAVE CALLED TO RESOLVE IT FIRST WHEN I TALKED TO DERRICK. NOTHING WAS RESOLVED. YOU ALL ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL. I was overcharged by $9 and Derrick asked for my phone number to make sure the food was right the next time, however I never intended on coming back Because I don't spend my money in unprofessional places. If you want to believe that it was resolved after what Derrick said to me on the phone, then you believe that. $9 is not going to break me However it's the principle of being overcharged. The response that I did not read all was a personal attack towards me because of what I stated in the first review. This is supposed to be a business, this is nothing personal. Again, I have NO interest in coming back there. The rest is between all parties...

Not really moved to leave this review but I was in the area and was looking forward to it. Dont hang out in Ducanville too much but I have family that lives here that I was visiting. I decided to check this place out. I was enthusiastic about it. One always thinks they came across a hidden gem. Unfortunately, it was not the case. Service- very hospitable. Worst part of this review was that the cashier that attended me was kind and friendly so im saddened to leave the low mark on the brisket. Atmosphere- it seemed like they were going to set up for a live band later on the evening (towards the back of the restaurant.) Very clean and inviting. Sides were pretty good. Wife and kids shared macaroni and were quite pleased. I had some french fries and some home-made potatoe chips they make. They season the fries and the chips with the same mix it seems but i had no issues with it. I liked it. Finally, the star of the show.... well at least i thought. The brisket made dickies bbq look good. I almost had 2 lbs of it, so i had enough to judge for consistency and it was consistently tough . The pieces were 90% fat, gristle and 10% brisket. The parts that were actually brisket were mildly tough and slightly rubbery. None of the strips broke when I pulled. Instead of eating the entire strip like i do at most bbq places; here, i had to poke out the few spots that had brisket. Id like to give them another chance and try the chopped bbq but the price point vs quality doesnt...

Very disappointed, we both had the 2 meat plates. My dtr ordered sausage and brisket, w okra and mac and cheese. I had brisket and ribs,with sweet potato fries and slaw. Then we were told they didn't have sausage due to a malfunction. All they had was ribs and brisket. No Mac and cheese either. Then were told would have sausage and Mac and cheese up in about 5 min. We sat down and waited for our order, the food came fairly quick but no drinks. Those came after another wait. No sweet and low for the tea on the tables so had to ask for that. Still waiting on the sausage and Mac and cheese. Finally the sausage came out, but had like cheese in it, and she said it tasted like jalapeños or something. While that's not bad if you expect it, she expected just normal.sausage. a note on the board that this was a cheese and pepper sausage would have been nice. Another wait and Finally her Mac and cheese came out. She said it was good but arrived after the meal. We decided to get the peach cobbler for desert to split, and while the plastic container said peach cobbler what it was was carrot cake. It was good but not made fresh,was a packaged product. The music was playing so loud it was uncomfortable and a blessing when it finally stopped. We both felt for the price we have had much better bbq...
