Thibodeaux's Authentic Cajun Cookin' — Restaurant in Duncanville

I wanted to give this place 5 stars so bad, but I have to give an honest and fair review. There were definitely more pros than cons, but the cons look longer because I'm telling a story🤷🏾‍♀️

PROS- Food is good and seasoned well, I ordered the fried fish and wing basket. Very nice atmosphere: The set up is nice, I didn't feel claustrophobic, and it's a well put together place. The DJ and Don Diego band were phenomenal: A good mix of old and new school, r &b , blues, line dances, and hot 100. Clean place and restrooms: cleanliness is extremely important to me. Great vibes, good food, and Strong drinks! I'll definitely be back!!

CONS- Happy hour specials and prices are unclear. Menu says baskets include fries, but only when food was received, was I told the sandwich basket doesn't include fries. (Manager gave me fries, but first tried to convince me that I should order a side of fries, or a 2 piece meat basket) Lastly, but the main reason I gave this place 4 starts, and I find this in other restaurants as well, it is not a badge of honor for wait staff to take your order and try to remember your entire order and the order of everyone who stops them on the way to place your order, only for them to forget what was ordered, have to be reminded of the order, or bring the wrong thing (all 3 of these scenarios happened tonight). Maybe, things would go a little smoother, and Everyone, including the wait staff could be less stressed if the orders were written down. I noticed many people at tables frustrated by the service, and the wait staff were being run around like crazy people. It wasn't that they were being lazy or inattentive, it was the table to waiter ratio wasn't reasonable.

IN CONCLUSION Overall, I really love this place! This was my first time going and I will definitely be back, but next time, I'll know the questions to ask to make sure I'm getting what i think I'm ordering. I will also order more than one drink at a time. I hope that when things get a little better with the job market, they can hire more staff so that the customers can feel properly...

The great things about this place was the live band and dj. I recommend the Catfish and Shrimp both were good. Chicken was the only other meat I tried (Lemon Pepper) and there was nothing special about it.

Area of Improvement Need- Service The tables/booths that were available to sit at hadn't been cleaned. But we sat at 1 and awaited for someone to come gather the items and take our order as the front counter staff stated the waiters/waitresses like their tips if we ordered from the table. 30 min. later, no one had come to clean the tables nor take our order. I went back and ordered my food from the front counter at 9:24pm and was given a number on a stand for the table. I informed her that no one had come to our table to take the order or to clean it She said she would come do it after she takes the next few customer orders. In the meantime, we moved the dirty dishes to another table that needed to be cleaned. Someone did come shortly after and wipe our table.

So the people that went there with me ordered their food about 10 mins. later. After 40 min. passed, they started getting their food. I asked the lady, how did they get their food before me? She worked the front counter and said she didn't know. She asked and looked at my ticket number and said she would check on it. 10 min. later, nothing. I went back to the counter and asked if a manager was there to speak to them. She told me yes and also asked to see my ticket again. She went to the back and came right back with my food order (an hr. since the order was placed) and asked if I wanted to wait on the manager or she could send her to my table. I said she could send her to my table. About 20 min later the front counter staff brings the food order for my table number from when I first ordered. (and it was missing an item). I didn't trip on the missing item as the problem had been rectified in a way. We left the establishment a little after 12am and I NEVER spoke to the manager.

Would I go back again, idk. If I did, I would probably order online for pickup and take it into the main...

Visited on a weekday last week for a friend's birthday celebration. No cover to enter this quaint, cozy atmosphere with the lounge accessible through the restaurant entrance. Don Diego performed and was a treat as always. My waitress was very polite and attentive but clearly taking care of too many people on her own. She was a pro, though, because she didn't seem overwhelmed by the constant, simultaneous demands and always came back with what was requested although it would understandably take her awhile to do so. The overall experience left a few things to be desired for me: It was so crowded that we had to walk directly in front of the stage via the dance floor to exit because there wasn't any room between the tables. We were so unavoidably noticeable that the entertainer asked why we were leaving so soon mid-performance over the mic from the stage. It took 1hr 15 min to get a fish basket and wings. Since it's a restaurant and a popular artist was performing that night, I feel it was reasonable to expect the kitchen staff to be prepared for the crowd. It was hot, hot, hot! My beau broke a sweat sitting at the table and had to roll up his sleeves. The couple we shared a table with left the dance floor mid-song because they also started to sweat. And this on a night when a heavy coat was needed to go outside. There was a guy filming from the back of the restaurant. I observed him addressing some of the waitstaff so assume he worked there as management or was the owner. Either way, everyone doesn't want to be filmed so notice would've been nice in case we end up in a pic on the restaurant's site. All in all, I enjoyed myself. The food was okay and there was a nice Happy Hour drink selection. I got a good-sized margarita w/a nice kick to it for $6 and my guy had a beer for $3. Again, the atmosphere is invitingly intimate and Don Diego came to the table to wish my friend a happy birthday. I'd go back in lighter clothes and on a full stomach and expect to have an...
