I had to find a “halfway” place to meet a vegetarian friend, and knew it had to be in the Triangle area. Immediately, the listing for Pomegranate Kitchen caught my eye due to its rave reviews. It was perfect for our situation because it was halfway between our homes, plus we would have a dog with us, and there was outdoor seating.
Little did we know what a wonderful experience we would have. The owner treated us like old friends and carefully and thoughtfully explained our menu choices. We decided to split the jeweled rice and pomegranate stew. We were given such a hearty portion, perfect for two people. We also tried the mojito drink (non-alcoholic) and a slice of homemade pomegranate cheesecake. YUM.
The flavor—ohhhh the flavor!! I am not a vegetarian, but I eat just about everything. I will tell you, if all vegetarian food tasted like this, I would surely consider giving up meat. The rich, citrusy flavor of our meal will leave me thinking about this restaurant for days to come.
Highly recommended! Thank you for taking care...
Read moreA friend and I ate here on a whim, and I'm glad we did. When you arrive you might be a little nervous, as it is difficult to get to the restaurant, and the restaurant has no inside seating. However, I don't know that I've ever had a more charming dining experience.
The kitchen area essentially looks like someone just transplanted a classic grandmother kitchen into a restaurant and the air is fragrant. The ladies working on that day were grandmotherly and kind. The owner talked us through the menu very patiently and they do have quite a bit of outdoor seating that looks over a little garden or a large amount of bamboo.
When the food arrived it was beautiful, we both ordered jewel rice and fesenjan. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the meal was heart and flavorful. The owner even asked us where we were from and gushed about our city. I felt like i had experienced grandmother cooking from someone else's grandma. The whole experience was just insanely pleasant and I would definitely go back if I'm ever...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I were visiting from philadelphia and happened to find this gem of a place. Their food is some of the best I've ever had in recent memory. Their flavors are so vibrant with really unique flavors. The owner makes all of her food with her own recipes and fresh ingredients. She's extremely passionate about her food and it shows. We were only in town for 3 days but it was so good that we wanted to return before we left. The pomegranate stew was a highlight - we couldn't believe it was just walnuts, pomegranate, and beans. The chef must be doing something magical in that kitchen. The meatball piroshki was sweet, savory, and so flaky. The hibiscus mojito was tart and refreshing. Sadly, they're only open 3 days a week and dont have a location in Philly - otherwise we would come every day. We will definitely try to visit Durham again just to come here. It...
