Normally I do not write reviews. This time however I would be wrong if I did not.
This hotel's high reviews, on their page seem questionable at best.
I am a Duke Hospital outpatient assigned to this facility by Atlas Travel Patient Support Program. Their representative that booked our reservations unfortunately, and by her own admission had never seen the facility and was not aware of the physical condition of the hotel.
My treatment plan requires a stay of 30 to 45 days, and requires me to be housed in very close proximity to the hospital for medical reasons. Had I known the condition of this facility I would have refused the stay, and would have glady paid to stay elsewhere. I am also required to be accompanied by a caretaker throughout the duration of my stay. There are two of us enduring the exact same experiences.
My treatment began on October 9th. My wife and I arrived late afternoon the day before. When we entered the room we were immediately dissatisfied. We were told all rooms were booked for the next two weeks. We immediately began making phone calls trying to relocate, but to no avail. Due to the length of my treatment, and uncertainty of the treatment duration we were unable to find another place to stay on short notice; it was too close to the start of my procedure. We have been stuck here since our arrival unfortunately. I apologize to my wife daily.
We stay on the 2nd floor of the hotel. Our room reeks of wet dog and dirty carpets and carpet pads. The furniture, curtains and carpets are old, dingy, outdated and there is always a stench. Often times the bathroom smells of sewerage. Each day we go to our daily medical appointments and our clothes stink of the hotel. I demanded and was offered and shown a room on the 3rd floor. It too reeked of dog. We were told there are no designated rooms for pets, and all of their rooms are pet friendly. We were also told there is no policy to clean the rugs nor the couches in between occupants, thus accounting for the dirty carpets, chairs and odor; this is obviously a bad, unthought-out policy. This is totally unacceptable.
We had a bathroom issue early one evening that required maintenance and was told no maintenance staff was available until the next day.
I am undergoing a major medical procedure, including having a Hickman port in my chest. I am instructed to lift no more than 10 pounds and have been unable to relocate because I am unable to lift my luggage, or drive.
The high ratings and praises in the reviews are mind-boggling. This is not the place to stay if you seek the relaxation of cleanliness, especially if you are here for a medical procedure and are trying to recover under comfortable conditions. It is not uncommon to see hotel guests with dirty, ungroomed dogs having free reign of the hotel, to include the dining area, and around other hotel guests. Apparently there is not a standard for pet cleanliness at this hotel, and several of the dogs look and smell unkept.
The rooms are reflective of an old outdated hotel. It is the strong odor and uncleanliness that is most outstanding. The housekeepers empty the trash and provide towels daily. Once a week they do a quick vacuum, change the linen, and clean the bathroom. The rugs often smell worse after being vacuumed.
I would question any of the online reviews that called this "great". If you have nothing else to compare this with and don't know any better, maybe.
We absolutely would never stay here again, and will advise against it! I will also relay this information to the Duke Hospital Administration, formally, in hopes of preventing any of their future patients from having to endure the same.

Read moreMy family, which consists of three very small children, selected Staybridge Suites as our hotel of choice for the New Years holiday. The parking was great. The AM front lobby staff were very professional and courteous. With our traveling with young children we requested a room away from other guests. The rooms were well insulated. We didn't hear a peep and no one heard our very excited, post-Christmas kiddos. We found the rooms to be very spacious and the kitchen was well stocked. TV's were in both rooms. No problems with the cable or internet access.
We noticed within a few hours after check-in that we were all sneezing a lot. After opening the windows we had some relief, but it was very cold outside. We could visibly see that the room hadn't been dusted in quite some time. The dust on the dresser and television surfaces was very thick in both rooms of our suite. We asked the housekeeping staff to please dust the room but there was a huge language barrier. We physically had to take a towel and show the two ladies what we needed done to the surfaces of the room. They dusted a few of the areas and omitted the rest. Admittedly housekeeping was not consistent in their upkeep of the room. The bathtub, sink, and toilet were not cleaned or sanitized at any point after our initial check-in.
I would say our stay was average until my husband was locked out of the hotel. This was the factor that made us decide that Staybridge might not be the best choice for our family. My husband was returning to the hotel from an outing at roughly 11:30pm. He didn't get into our room until after midnight. He had a problem with his room key and couldn't enter the hotel. He called the main lobby for about 15 minutes and his calls were left unanswered. He didn't want to disturb the children and I but called my cell to explain that he was stuck outside. I tried calling the front desk in hopes that an internal phone call might get a response. No one answered either. I didn't want to wake my kids and bring them downstairs, and it was unsafe to leave my children unattended on the third floor - especially with uncertain room keys, but no one was at the front desk and I needed to let my husband inside of the building. As I rushed to head downstairs you wouldn't imagine what I discovered - the front desk attendant is sleeping behind the fireplace (the very one displayed in the pictures online). Seriously!!! The person responsible for the safety and well-being of the Staybridge guests is snuggled up and sleeping on the job. This was so crazy we had started to post a picture of it on Facebook. How unprofessional! It's very fortunate that no one had an emergency. That experience left a bitter taste so I brought it up with the manager and front desk staff the following morning. The manager apologized and the other staff thought it was amusing. I don't think we'll return to Staybridge, at least not this particular location. With the right staff in place, they have the potential to be really awesome. I wish...
