I ordered too margarita pizzas on Jan 9th 2022 at 6:30pm. One with Buffalo and prosciutto and one without. This was our second time dinning here and I feel like it was better last time we visited.
Maybe my memory is tainted because I just got back from Naples and Sicily. Having spent three weeks in Italy over the holidays eating many amazing pizzas, I was craving that soft, spongy crust that has a hint of yeast smell when you tear into it. What I got instead was a pretty standard American style pizza with a flat and over worked crust that has no air pockets or life to it.
The crust was over cooked especially the part under the toppings. As I said, I am familiar with neopolitan pizza and I expect some of the leoparding and enjoy it when it is done right. This was different and there were spots that where just hard and didn't even have charring on them. It seemed like it was just over cooked. The edge crust was flat and has none of the spongy quality of real neopolitan pizza. Looking at the photos from some of the other reviews, I can see what looks much closer to what I remember from my last visit and what I would expect from neopolitan pizza.
While this pizza may be one of the better options in the Durham area, it falls far short of real neopolitan pizza. Or it at least it did this time.
The cook forgot to add my prosciutto which I paid for on the website order and he was rude. I tipped 25% through the website and he couldn't even acknowledge me when I said "hi" and "thanks. Have a good night." Just completely ignored me. Aside from that, it is a decent pizza but what I got this time was not worth the 30$ for two pies.
I had high hopes for a place that has the balls to name themselves after the birth place of pizza, but I worry it is just another over-priced attempt to capture the dollars of wanna-be foodies who wouldn't know a true neopolitan pizza if they were smacked across the face with it. In terms of the quality of the food and the friendliest of the staff, I was really...
Read moreA disappointing experience. If you want a fresh pizza experience, do not order online. I ordered a margarita pizza during lunchtime with extra sauce, receiving a notification that my pizza would be ready for pickup at 12:43pm. I arrived at 12:45pm thinking my pizza would be ready to go, or at least fresh out of the oven. When I arrived, a woman asked if I was picking up an order. I told her my name, and she said that it would be ready in a few minutes. She proceeded to turn to one of the chefs and said it’s a pick up for a Margarita Pizza with extra sauce. To my surprise, he turned and placed a pizza that was sitting on the rack into the oven. I waited a few minutes for the pizza to warm up. They boxed the reheated pizza, placed a side of sauce in the box and said here you go! It was after 12:50pm at this point, and I needed to get back to work, so I just took the pizza and left. But this was a very disappointing experience. I was looking forward to a FRESH wood fire pizza made to order, not rewarmed. The pizza itself was decent, nothing special with very few basil leaves. So essentially, I ordered a $14 reheated cheese pizza…I will...
Read moreI had high hopes for Napoli, but unfortunately, my experience fell far short of expectations. The main letdown was the pizza, which was surprisingly bland and lacking in flavor.
The crust was decent enough, but the sauce was the real disappointment. It tasted as if it came straight from a can - flat, uninspired, and devoid of the rich tomato flavor you'd expect from a quality Neapolitan pizzeria. The toppings did little to salvage the situation, failing to add any meaningful taste to the lackluster base.
For a place that specializes in Neapolitan pizza, I was truly dissatisfied with the lack of authenticity and attention to flavor. It's as if they've forgotten that the essence of great pizza lies in its taste, not just its appearance.
While I didn't try the gelato, I can't in good conscience recommend this place based on their pizza alone. There are far better options available for those seeking a genuine Italian pizza experience.
If you're in the mood for pizza, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. Napoli Neapolitan Pizzeria and Gelateria has a lot of room for improvement when it comes to their...
