I was supposed to have breakfast here in 2020 but I came down with Covid. I was so bummed that I couldn't make it. 5 years and many different breakfast joints later, I finally came in for breakfast. My husband and I usually go downtown for breakfast but I came in today by myself for some personal time.
Walking up to the venue, I am in awwww at how beautiful this place is! They truly changed this church into a beautiful venue. I love all the outdoor seating. Huge umbrellas to give you the proper shade from the sun. Going into the restaurant, you notice the breakfast beautiful bar and all the tables in the dining area. The dining area is well lit from the gorgeous church style windows. The windows add such a unique touch to the place. It's simply decorated yet stunning at the same time.
I was greeted by the sweet host. He asked me where I wanted to sit. I chose to sit at the breakfast bar. I was regretting not sitting on the patio. The weather is nice today but a little chilly for me.
Emma greeted me with a menu and a glass of water. I got my vanilla mocha ordered with her while I was looking over the menu. I noticed they had clam chowder as their soup of the day but I stuck to breakfast. Clam chowder sounded so good but I'm sure it wouldn't have mixed well with my eggs. My drink got dropped off and I ordered Larry's breakfast for my meal.
My plate came out shortly and it looked great! My toast was overly toasted and I didn't mind! I love me a little char on my food. The bacon was not too hard or soft, it had the perfect chew to it. The potatoes were seasoned nicely. They were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Eggs were fried over medium. As classic or basic this breakfast is, everything was prepared perfectly.
From the venue to the staff, everything and everyone is so beautiful. It was chill sitting at the breakfast bar watching people working and guests enjoying their time. I am really sad I didn't come to this joint sooner but I'm happy I finally made it! As much as we love heading downtown for breakfast in our area, I'm going to have to convince my husband to come here. I can already see us sitting in the patio, under the big umbrella, enjoying our eggs with the fresh air breezing through our hair. Looking forward to another Larry's breakfast at...
Read moreI wanted to be able to leave a good review, as I’ve always had a positive experience in the past. Unfortunately, I’m not able to do that today. I came from brunch with my two girls, we arrived right around noon. Wait time was good, was seated after probably half the amount of time that we were told the wait would be. We were then seated in the corner, with a vent right below us that had a very cold draft blowing right on us. When our waitress came to take our drink orders, I nicely asked if there was any way to adjust the temperature with that vent as I was very cold- no problem if there wasn’t, just thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask. I was abruptly told to just put a menu over it, which of course did nothing. Not a big deal though… We were never brought silverware and had to ask for it, then wait for it after our food arrived. I think she actually swept up under a table that was just seated, before bringing us utensils for our meals. We then received an irritated look when we for ketchup, as she brought our silverware (she left so quickly before that we didn’t have time to ask for both). Our water glasses were never refilled, one was completely empty and the other two were nearly empty. We were never checked on once, asked how our meal was or if we needed anything. She only came back to ask us if we were ready for the check (which I think took her less time to bring then our silverware), at which time she should’ve noticed that we needed a refill on our water. She seemed irritated as she stood at the table while we adjusted the time amount. Both of my girls are servers and work for tips, so we always tip well. But the service here was quite lacking. A like to give a bit of grace since I know everyone has a bad day, but there wasn’t much effort here to make our experience a good one, so I felt the need to leave a review.
Our meal however, was good. It was cooked well, with no complaints. We will be back again, and hopefully will have a...
Read moreSolid waitstaff. That's the only good thing I can say about this place. The food is of extremely low quality.
My girlfriend was served rotten arugula on her Benedict, and when I mentioned this to the waitress, the table next to us also commented that they were picking through the arugula in their salad as well! Also the extremely browned avocado was served as a whole quarter thrown on top of both sandwiches which were lacking the requested pickled onions.
I ordered a classic eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast plate. For $15 I was served 2 burnt pieces of bacon, unseasoned eggs, unseasoned potatoes, and one piece of white toast cut in half. The funniest bit was the cook putting the slightly less burnt side of the bacon facing up, as if that was going to keep me from noticing... When the waitress brought all this to the managers attention, they discounted our food by 50%.
While a step in the right direction, paying even half of a dish's menu price when it was served with rotten ingredients is ridiculous. I wish I had the wherewithal to take more pictures, but they were pretty keen to take our plates away as quickly as possible. I was also surprised the manager did not address our complaints with us, rather opting to send the waitress back with our discounted check.
If you're the chef reading this: I would be embarrassed to serve the quality of food I saw today. If you're new to the industry please hire someone who has an expert understanding of how to execute your menu in a fast paced and professional environment. If you aren't new, God help you.
If you're the owner reading this: You desperately need to get a handle on the quality of food coming out of your kitchen. We ate here because of my girlfriend and her family's long standing tradition of getting breakfast at Rembrandt's. I don't know what changed, it was my first time there myself, but we unfortunately won't be back to find out. A 20 year reputation gone...
