9/25/2019 The food was fantastic.
We were promptly sat upon arrival. (2 people in my party) We waited about 10 minutes before being..greeted? She said "I'm sure you've had plenty of time to look at the menu and I'll get you dessert for the wait". And then pulled out her pad and paper and stared at us. Great start. (Sarcasm) We said it wasnt a big deal. We ordered 2 sodas, 2 small cups of miso soup, and edamame as an appetizer. At the same time we ordered 2 entrees. The Ribeye and the Bulgogi dish.
About 25 minutes later, (appropriate wait time) our entrees arrived. Before the appetizers. We politely reminded her about the appetizers. She said she'd be right back. (No eye contact, no apology) My plate (the bulgogi) was barely warm and the side dishes with seasonings were scarce. Its essentially a dish where you make your own little bites of rice, beef, sauces, and seasonings in lettuce wraps. There were enough seasonings for maybe 3 bites. I thought the sauces were on the way. They didn't make it to the table. Nor did our appetizers.
I was going to wait for our server to come back to just swap it with a different entree.( I know that would be a pain and I knew I would have to wait) I just wanted a hot plate of food. About 20ish minutes after our server never came back with appetizers or to check how our food was, we asked the host to grab our server. He brought us a refill on a soda. We saw him speak with our server. She shook her head and didn't come to the table. He said he would bring us our soup after he said he had to go make it.(20 minutes after entrees arrived and my friend was already done eating and I hadn't touched my entree.)
Neither host or server asked how the food was. She brought the soup. I ordered my entree. She then again offered to buy us dessert. I said I would pass on the dessert if she just swapped my entree on the check. A small request after some crumby service. My food arrived piping hot about 10 minutes after I ordered it. It was great. The edamame never came, but we decided to let it go because we already felt like we were being a pain to the server. We just wanted what we ordered. She brought us 2 checks and just dropped them off at the table.
No words. No apology or explanation. Just dropped the checks and left. She didn't charge us for the soup and I was only charged for the entree I ate. Cool. But when we began to wait for her to come pick up our payment, we decided to just go to the host stand and pay. Annoying, I know, but we didn't want to wait after waiting all night.
We approached an older gentleman at the host stand. Instantly he smiled. We asked if our server was ok. He explained that they were short staffed and they were doing the best they could. SEE?! Why couldn't she have said that? I get it. He instantly made us feel better because WE GET IT. But she didn't stop to take the 10 seconds to explain what was happening. She acted like she gave zero..care. She seriously could have changed the entire dining experience just by apologizing and giving a genuine concern. Even if we had to wait, that would have made all the difference. She was stoic and came across as annoyed the entire duration of our visit.
The rest of the service staff was friendly and prompt. Bad days happen in the industry. But one of the aspects of the art of hospitality and great service is effective communication and she had neither. I may be back, and I hope they sort out their staffing issue because the...
Read moreBeen here three times so far. Always great, and tonight was the best visit yet. Went there for my dad's 75th birthday. My mom, aunt, brother, and nephew joined us.
I had the Ginger Ninja, (great name) - a vegetarian dish with cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, bok choy, mushrooms, black and brown rice, and a ginger-wasabi-sesame sauce.
I had some tofu added (tofu is not listed in the menu for this particular dish, but the waitress asked if I wanted to add some protein, and told me my options). The flavor - wonderful. The texture of the tofu was also great. I wonder how it was prepared. Portion size was large enough that I had a little to take home.
Mom had General Tso's chicken and gave me a bit of it. I never saw it prepared like that before. Tasted a bit unlike any General Tso's that I'd tried before - a little more spicy, and texture different as well. I liked it.
There's a sushi bar in the restaurant. I'm not into sushi, so I can't comment on that, just something I noticed. I don't know if sake is available. I should have checked. I'm guessing if there's sushi, there's sake somewhere.
This is quality tasty food, so it ain't super cheap. The least expensive meal we ordered was the pho, for $8.99. The most expensive - I forget what it was - $15.99.
Beverages.. I had oolong tea. Two other kinds of hot tea available. Full bar as well. Dad and my brother had cocktails which they were quite pleased with.
We had an excellent waitress! Sorry I can't remember names! Cute young blonde with a tattoo on one arm. Very friendly, very quick and attentive. My brother was not only with us this evening, and also at the restaurant this past Thursday, with his wife and another couple. The same waitress helped him then.
The dude with the man bun was also very helpful.
The place looks great! I really like it. It is not very big though, and fills up fast. I do wish they'd take the TV's out of there. At least the TV's are on silent. Also, there was no loud music playing on the speakers in the background .This is great, because it's loud in there as it is, because of conversation of happy diners. My brother said there was live music on Thursday.
This restaurant is busy! Get reservations. We did for tonight. Called in two days ago. My brother and those with him did not get reservations for last Thursday evening, and had to wait a half hour. He said Thursday night was even busier than tonight. Maybe because of the live music.
Alright then.. awesome. Thanks!
Post script: Out the back door is a little walkway with a footbridge that I think leads to a little street, if you want to get a bit of exercise after your meal. And if you've got a jones for playing '80's and '90's arcade games, as well as pinball, Grinker's arcade is in...
Read moreI Gave this establishment the opportunity to address my concern via e mail which i will post below, to date " 10 days later still no response". Thus world here is the truth about the Rice Cafe in Eagle.
s a vegetarian and entrepreneur who has owned several restaurant as a hobby I truly appreciate the food that your establishment serves and make it a point to introduce my friends and clients to your business.
However I am somewhat dissatisfied and concerned with the service I have received during my last 2 visits to your establishment. It frustrates me that after spending $89.00 and $74.00 respectively during my last 2 visits that I have had to leave your establishment feeling unwelcome and insulted.
During one visit we ordered beverages with our meal and the server brought out the wrong ones, when we advised her of this she gave an inapropreat attitude and reluctantly took the beverages back to correct the problem. While she was gone I was praying over the meal with my family just like we always do before we eat however our blessing was interrupted when the server slammed our drinks down on the table walking away so fast that she as out of site before we could open our eyes, only returning to give us the check.
Only because i enjoy your vegetarian entrees did i return, this time I was closing a 1.5 million dollar distribution deal with a client and his wife. We had reviewed our order and were ready to place it with the server after waiting for over 20 minutes a server approached the table and asked if we were done with our menus. I began to gather the menus to assist the server in preparation of taking our order when the server snatched the sushi menu out of my hand giving me a paper cut, the server immediately turned his back to me and walked 2 tables over and placed the sushi menu with a different table that was already seated ad disappeared for another 15 minutes before returning to take our order.
In consideration of this im giving you an opportunity to address the matter if you so chose to and earn my business again. Depending on how your management addresses this your business will either retain me as a loyal customer or in the unfortunate matter that i still feel insulted and dissatisfied i will have no choice but to leave reviews online sharing my...
