We decided to try Smitty's Smokin Soul Food about two weeks ago which is a 1hr 45min drive from where I live. When we arrived inside of the restaurant we were greeted by a nice young lady at the end of the counter who was chopping up the brisket. She then, asked was it our first time in, how did we hear about the location and even asked would we like to try a sample of the brisket. We then proceeded to the register to place our order before sitting down at the table. It was a little struggle to find a clean booth due to them needing to be wiped down and the others unavailable. Then, we found a decent one and sat down to wait for our food. My friend and I decided to use the public facilities while waiting for the food to arrive and my friend came out of the men's restroom upset. He stated that the toilet was about to overflow into the floor and needed some attention immediately. My food arrived first then and then my missing item(soul roll)arrived within the next few minutes with his food. I was very caught off guard by the soul roll because it was burned and look as if it had been sitting with the other food near the cash register under the heat lamp for hours. I did try it before telling the young lady it taste burnt. I asked her if they were all that way and she stated,"Yes ma'am they all are like that," and just walked away without a care in the world. We had to literally get up and go to the register and return the burned soul roll because no one should be made to eat anything that is not right. While enjoying the rest of our food they brought out a fresh and unburned soul roll that looked nothing like the old one as before. After, finishing our food my friend decided to get a refill on tea at what we assumed to be a self serve location near the kitchen area. Shortly, after that we found out through the first young lady who greeted us telling the others that no one should have to get up and refill anything. Overall, the food was ok but I was very disappointed with our first time experience. I want to say this and mean no disrespect. Sometimes when you have alot of teens working it helps to have a adult there to oversea things are going smoothly. Tables need to be wiped down and cleaned after each customer, restrooms need to be checked on periodically and no customer should have a empty cup while eating. I do want to recognize the young lady who worked that day at the end of the counter chopping the brisket. She definitely has the personality, mindset and purpose that is needed...

Well, another retort from this fine establishment. How wonderful... 😐 Who runs your social media?
To be honest, all I did was update some formatting. This is one of the worst experiences I've encountered both during and after service so I want to make sure it's as cogent as possible.
To be clear, nothing has changed: Overpriced, bland, small portions that are worsended by an immature staff that hounds my post. Oh, well. My review remains unchanged and your responses speak for themselves.
Update...
Apparently, the $285 we paid is fair price for pans filled up less than 1/4 of capacity. There you go! Thanks for replying and telling me I got what I what I should expect: Overpriced, bland, underfilled, catered food. Not sure how you arrived at the fact that it was eaten by my pics, but whatever.
Fantastic quote from the eatery: "People pay these prices everyday, Michelin just this past week." A company paid those prices and we, as a family, should be prepared to have the same capital expenditures available as a large enterprise. That's just rich. Completely out of touch.
My rating stands. DO NOT cater your food at this establishment. You will not get what you paid for. A total rip off.
Ordered two large macaroni and cheese dishes along with a small peach cobbler for a repast in honor of a recently departed family member. The location was two hours away so opted to have it catered.
What we received were five small bins (four Mac and cheese, one peach cobbler). The food was bland and so overpriced I'm literally still in sticker shock.
You mean to tell me we paid $285 for this? I will never again get food from this establishment. I don't live in the area so it's unlikely we'd ever have the occasion but the price gouging is absurd and...
Read moreI had heard such great things about this place so we went to try it — spoiler alert, it was not great, I don’t know if we went on an off day or what. We went in on Sunday morning right after they opened. We walked in were asked if we wanted a sample of the brisket, we stated no, that we’d never been there before. The lady got kind of condescending and said, “okay, would you like to try a sample of our brisket.” Call me crazy but when someone says they’ve never been to a restaurant before they are typically looking for some sort of direction. The pulled pork had ZERO flavor, tasted like it was made in a crockpot, no smoked flavor whatsoever and it was barely warm. It was also a bit off putting to see them putting their gloved hands in the pulled pork and plopping it on the tray. I was a DHEC certified ServSafe manager for years, they NEVER changed their gloves even after wiping their hands on their pants. The young lady working the cash register was also wearing gloves, never changed them after touching the register then grabbing food. Disgusting. The cups that the drinks in, were so greasy (from the not changing or gloves) that they were slipping out of our hands. The macaroni was decent, green beans were so gross that no one ate them, and again the pulled pork no flavor. And the very worst part about all of this is that we paid EIGHTY-TWO dollars for four bbq pork plates and four drinks. I will never grace the doors of this place again. Save your money and go to Mutt’s — the food is about the same and at least you get an AYCE buffet complete with...
