My family has dined here for dinner a few times and had great experiences. We tried takeout last Monday night and it has turned us off from returning for awhile. Firstly, you have to order via the website or app. When you try to call, the automated message directs you to order via the website or app. This would normally be fine, but I was already in the area and if you're from around here, you know that the Wegmans area of Downingtown is a dead zone for AT&T. I managed to find enough service in their parking lot and placed the order at 6 PM. The promised pick-up time was 6:28 PM according to the website confirmation page. Just after I received a text saying "once you arrive, come to the pick-up window". It didn't mention anything about waiting until a certain time or a text confirming it was ready, so I went up to the window just in case they fire off an order to be packed once the person "checks in". I was told at the window that I'll receive a text when ready... normally would be fine, but once again, dead zone. At 6:35 PM I hadn't received anything and was worried my phone with very little service didn't get the text, since my pick-up time was 6:28 PM. I went to the window and the same staff member said "you'll get a text". At 6:45 I was growing concerned- almost 20 minutes past my pick-up time and still nothing. I checked in at the window asking for an update. I gave my name and the staff member walked away to speak with more staff. He came back and said they were waiting on my iced tea (I didn't order one). I alerted him of that and he went back to check again. He came back saying "ok well you paid for one". To which I responded, "are we talking about the same order?" and gave my name again (he was talking about a different order of a name that wasn't remotely close to mine). He left to check again. He came back saying it was "next to be packed". I must have looked frustrated because he did apologize for the time. At 6:52, I finally received my pick-up text. I went to the window only for the staff member to tell me it was ready EXCEPT for one item (then why text me?). I then asked if it was normal for the pick-up orders to be running 25-30 minutes behind. He didn't directly answer but shrugged as if to suggest it was typical. If it's typical, why keep quoting customers an earlier pick-up time? I could have run an errand instead of waiting almost an hour in their parking lot. I was handed my last item (the bread) a few minutes later. Once I got home, I realized I was handed the wrong amount of bread that I ordered (and not in a good way... it was short a few pieces). Overall, frustrating experience for a weeknight and then to get home and be short on an item you ordered is not fun. We won't do take-out from here unless the accuracy in quoting a pick-up time improves, especially if it's a weekend. If it's 30 minutes behind on a random Monday, I can't imagine how long people wait for takeout...
Read moreMy wife and I had one of the best dining experiences of the year. We usually go to a closer Texas Roadhouse, but we were on our way home from a public garden. Our server, Angel, was very attentive and friendly and that just always makes for a better dining experience. My wife, the vegetarian, just loves their fresh baked rolls with cinamon butter and this place makes them bigger (or at least we got an unusually large batch) and they are already pretty sweet even without the cinamon butter. We got an Onion Blossom with their mexi-ranch sauce and it was so well cooked the breading was crispy and delicious and the onion was sweet and tender and just perfect when dipped in the mexi-ranch. I almost always get the same main dish, the barbecue grilled chicken, because it is usually perfectly portioned for me to eat half now and half later. If you go between 4 and 6 on a weekday (at this particular location - I know for sure that other locations have had different times so be syre to check), you can get an ever so sllightly smaller portion that is a few dollars cheaper. So, that's what I did. With it you get two sides and I usually go with the sweet potato ans their amazing chili... but this time I got the sweet potato and asked for steak fries on a separate plate for my wife... who also loves to dip their nice, thick steak fries in whatever kind of barbecue sauce they use at TRH. The fries were also well cooked and delicious. We also are glad they found a way to keep serving their peanuts by putting them in pre-packaged sealed bags. They are very salty but I always love their flavor. Still they have the signs up that caution people with peanut allergies that there is likely some peanut dust in the air. One other thing we like is their call ahead seating via their app (not sure if you can still call in a reservation or not). I didn't see how different the layout of this one was, but the ones closer to us tend to not be ideal for larger parties. So, they usually seat you at adjacent tables or something. Oh, and we happened to be there on a Tuesday which was kids their kids night. So, I took the chance to get a pucture with their cool mascot the armadillo in a ten gallon cowboy hat and they had some sort of special activities for the kids. Btw, if you go on your birthday, yoy have the option to sit on a saddle while they sing their birthday song... if you like that sort of thing...and I have opted to do so for my last few birthdays. Also, be ready for their occasional sever line dance. I am not sure if it is always the same song, but if you are there for a whike at some point they will do a little dance in the aisle for you. Our server added some extra ethusiastic twirls. All around we gad a great dining experience from...
Read moreAnother 6 Months Later: Was busy hanging out with my friend to notice our waitress name (younger blonde haired) but was super attentive and friendly. I politely emphasized the importance of RARE and he took note of it and served exactly what was requested. Props to her for brining my 3 consecutive negative experiences to a positive one.
1 year Update: Shortly after the below review the owner reached out to me and we discussed it. He is very carting, genuinely, you can tell it in his voice that his guests are happy and have a good experience. So this updated review isn't at his fault but at the manager and employee level.
I have to unfortunately keep this at 1 Star. I went back maybe 2 months after the original review and the service was great but the food was not.
Brothers wanted to come here for their birthday again, and again disappointment. Service was acceptable but the food was not. Again the Prime rib was not rare. It was maybe 4:30 so there definitely should have been a rare cut. Instead what I got was a nice red top and everything below it was medium. It also looked like half of the steak was missing. My mom ordered a smaller one and I ordered the largest and mine was smaller. Vegetables, how do you screw that up? One cup of broccoli was cooked, the other walk half cold and uncooked.
3rd disappointment in a row here. Again, this really is a chef issue and not owner. However I cannot rate higher just on good faith especially for what it costs for 4 people to eat.
Hopefully someday it improves but after a year with no change in food quality, my hopes aren't high.
Disappointing to say the least. 3 girls at the front, two are chatting, one is on the phone doing all the work including checking people in. Check in, takes forever to get a table despite having a call ahead. They squeeze 6 of us (all adults) in a tiny booth. Fine, I can live with that.
I politely told the waitress that I wanted a truly rare steak and with a laugh said I'd send it back if it wasn't. Food took forever, no fault of the waitress, she checked in on us plenty. My steak came out more like medium rare, my dads was rare. It took so long I didn't want to wait for a new one and give the waitress sht as that's not her fault.
I patiently waited and this is what earned them a definitive 1 Star. I told the front that it was my brothers' (twins) 30th birthday and if theyd do the singing thing. WELL GUESS WHAT, Nobody showed up and botched the big 3-0, it's not like I can embarrass them again. 30 happens once. Good job Roadhouse. If you're still in business in around 3 years I'll give you another shot but as it stands you've warned yourself the lowest possible 1...
