I really didn’t want to write this review because I do like this place, well..I did like this place. Unfortunately I’ll never come back after my experience today. And I say today because I was literally there allllllll day. On the way there we called found out the wait was 20 minutes, perfect! The wait is usually always longer but I’m cool with it. Once i walked in I noticed no one was really outside which is even better. I walk in to put my name in and sit and wait I’d say 5 minutes, a women walked by not even acknowledging me, but instead she asked a women who came in after me if she’s all set and proceeded to put her name down not even noticing me standing in front of everyone! So I told her that I was here first and I want my name first on the list. The lady didn’t say a word to me she just put my name on the list, totally fine no issues now. But the 20 minute wait turned into over 45 minutes. I saw 2 cleaned tables outside and MULTIPLE clean tables inside, the women would come out call a name, no answer because people started leaving cause of the wait, so once she noticed the names she called weren’t there she would walk back inside and disappear for 10 minutes at a time, just call the next friggen name. We finally sat down at the smallest table there even though every spot to sit at had 2 tables combined except ours haha laughable. The waitress came she took our drink orders then did not come back to the table until the check was given to me. 1 person brought our coffees and 2 people came and brought food. Never once did I get a “how’s everything”? Or a “need a refill”? So I was extremely disappointed in that. I also asked for ketchup and got it, popped the top and as soon as I turn it upside down the cap wasn’t fully attached so ketchup went everywhere, not sure why it wasn’t attached but could of been anyone’s fault just bad luck on my part. Waited 25 minutes for the check our really to be even noticed at the end. I’d like to tip people especially during this time but this is just insane the amount of incompetence by the staff, also the lady at the bar was INSANELY rude! I asked if I could sit at a table inside to one girl and she yelled across the building and said “No! You can’t sit there”. Thanks Karen 👌. Also wasn’t a fan of people standing around me trying to eat without masks on, a serious place would respect the distancing and make people wait in the car or In a area away from the tables. I will never ever ever come back to this place again we got there at 10:47Am and got the check at 1:10pm, waist of my damn time truly disgusted and I really like the food here, shame. They need new management so they can properly teach the staff how to work or just be competent...
Read moreLil' Rhody may be known for a lot of culinary gusto, but Southern favorites & Creole was not at the top of the list. Along came Dante's Kitchen, which is a game changer.
Dante's is a small cafe size establishment that packs them in for morning & afternoon offerings. That's breakfast & lunch with a bit of Southern charm & by Southern it's more akin to New Orlean's than Texas toast or Missippi mud. Of course, their is a well rounded smattering of familiar Southern affair to that keeps the menu from being overly pretentious.
Feisty & flavorful, but not overpowering, Dante's delivers on the goods. Patrons may find some unique AM concoctions that include pulled pork hash or chipotle pork belly. Of course traditional egg based plates, flap jacks, waffles, & such are presented, but why not push the envelope a bit. My personal faves include the shepherds pie benny & the biscuits & gravy, but locals seem to clammer for the chicken & waffles too.
Should you be a late riser, the lunch centric offerings are equally worthy of attention. Shrimp & grits, Jambalaya, & the po-boys are great lunch options, but breakfast is also available until close, if that's your calling. Bring a friend or spouse & order up some beignets to go with that coffee. If coffee is not your cup of tea, then wash them down with mimosas.
While Dante's has only been in existence for a few short years, they've garnered enough accolades to build a strong following. Weekenders may have to endure a wait to sample the delectables, but they'll be glad they did. Stop by & tell them...
Read moreI really enjoyed this restaurant at one point, even after COVID. I visited Dante’s today and was disappointed. I spent my entire day waiting to eat here. I arrived before 11 am and went to put my name in. Someone walked in after me and cut me in line and the hostess didn’t even say anything. Right after I told the hostess what happened and let her know I wanted to be seated before them. We waited 45 minutes before we sat down even though there were ample tables both inside and outside available and cleaned. The hostess would come outside, call someone’s name that wasn’t there and then would just go back inside - not even call the next person!!! I finally had to go inside and ask what the heck was going on. There was a table wide open inside and plenty of room for social distancing between the tables and they refused to sit us there. They finally sat us at a 2x2 table outside even though there was a larger table available. We waited forever for our drinks. Waitress took our order and we never saw her again. Food came out an hour later and our waitress never came to check on us. When we were done she offered me another drink and obviously I didn’t want one at that point. We waited another 20 minutes for the check. The service here was absolutely horrible and they weren’t even busy. Worst experience I’ve had here, I understand it gets busy but this place wasn’t as busy as I’ve seen it before. I will say the one star I did give is for the food. It was delicious but took forever. I will not eat here ever again, if I do it...
