I won’t do reviews on “YELP!” anymore. I did 8 reviews, but they erased “2” of them. Funny, I reviewed a variety of businesses, they think 2 of my reviews are false, but trust 5 of them. I won’t write reviews on Yelp anymore so anyway, PHO THAI NAM…..
GOD I LOVE YOU.
We ate mostly Thai. For what it’s worth i’m used to GREAT Thai food in Chicago and DC where I’ve lived.
Location Easy to find in a strip mall, busy but safe.
Decor I won’t go into detail but bottom line, it was clean, comfortable, the air conditioning was COOL and the decor is much nice than the average asian eatery.
Entry Friendly greeting by the host, who I later find is one of the owners. BIG PLUS - good greetings are sometimes indicator of a quality business.
*Appetizers (Awesome) Chicken Satay was dry. BUT the Fortune Bags, Egg Rolls, Shrimp Blankets and steamed dumplings were GREAT. We even ordered an extra portion of the shrimp during our meal.
I asked for extra sweet-sour sauce and they happily brought it. At many asian restaurants they get mean with such requests.
*Entrees *Drunken Noodles. The textures and flavors were spot on.
*Red Curry. GREAT. Real flavors, real curry/gravy not the store bought watered-down stuff that some places service.
Food served piping hot.
*Service GREAT, water glass never empty, friendly server. I noticed the owners talking to some regulars for a long time which is nice. I think the owners are hubby-wife, and the Wife came to our table not just with a “how was everything” but truly interested in the food quality, who we were etc. Now get this….
My Wife begs her to open a restaurant in Newtown PA (because Newtown is mostly overpriced, curt-service restaurants we gave up on) and guess what the owner says:
“No, because here we have a good staff, we can make sure things are good, make sure the food is consistent and right and if you get two restaurants, the quality might go down in both places” -wow - she is more interested in delivering a quality product than anything else-
I’m impressed.
Newtown PA is nice where we live, but since the restaurants are “meh” we started to venture out and bottom line: I’ll drive 55 minutes, ONE WAY to eat at this restaurant. We’ll do it 1 - 2 times a month for sure.
Great job...
Read moreWe have been coming to Pho Tai Nam for quite some time but, unfortunately, have noticed changes that will make our return unlikely. My favorite dish used to be the eggplant with chicken. I ordered it a few months ago snd instead of coming out on a platter, it came out in a small soup bowl with loads of watery liquid. I tried it again thinking the chef had an off night — same thing. I called the restaurant the next day to remark on this and they said to just order with no sauce next time. So last time I did so. The eggplant still came out in a small bowl with little sauce but also with barely any eggplant! It was mostly onions and peppers with bits of chicken and a few pieces of eggplant. Very disappointing.
In addition we had an extremely rude waiter. Let me be clear - the waitresses we’ve had have ALL been wonderful, but the older gentleman waiter is surly and unpleasant. If you go avoid his section.
On leaving the restaurant my dinner companion commented to me “talk about getting the bums rush!” Another couple leaving overheard and they said “OMG, you guys too???” They proceeded to tell us how they also were treated rudely. They added that they brought their grandkids ages 8 and 10 to the restaurant because they love pho. When asked why the kids pho did not come with the little bowls of add-ins they were told “we don’t serve that to kids under 12 because they don’t eat it.” They responded that their grandkids had a more sophisticated palate and to please bring. Can you imagine!!
There are a lot of Thai restaurants out there and I think it’s time to find a new one! ...
Read moreStunning! Beautiful restaurant with great food. A amazing late out to night dinner with friends. Only a few downsides…
The food hits well home for me, my family mostly consisting of family members from Vietnam. The best type of food is cooked by family, and this restaurant really felt like family was cooking. The menu offered so many different dishes all amazing thought out.
The restaurant itself was stunning inside. Amazing layout and thoughtful. Staff were kind and the waiting area was nice. The outside of the restaurant looks kinda- weird. But it was pretty inside. We found out if you pay with cash YOU CAN GET 5% OFF your total price. Which we didn’t t know but will do next time.
The downsides are few to none, the outside is kind of confusing. It’s in a small plaza and doesn’t have a big sign on the front indicating it’s a restaurant. The parking is short-a mess, this lot being shared with many stores, so it might be hard to find a spot at times. Another mini problem is the waiters, our waiter was so kind and nice to us, the bad thing is it was clear they were understaffed or something. Our waiter was in such a rush so we barely saw them. They would come and go so quick and we would never be able to get his attention due to them running around the restaurant. Other than that it was an amazing experience and i DO RECOMMEND for family dinner or a simple...
