My family visited The Stewart last week and had an amazing experience! There were six of us, some of whom were not Scotch drinkers - but who did enjoy vintage champagne.
We were renting a VRBO near Easton and my wife was researching a birthday dinner for me when she ran across The Stewart and it looked like it would be a great place since I like Scotch, but also it could be a special experience for all of us to enjoy given that some wanted to try Scotch, some like vintage champagne and there is wonderful food that all could enjoy. She contacted the restaurant since there were going to be six of us (due to Covid restrictions, most restaurants in this area at this time don't permit online reservations for groups of more than four) and they could not have been more helpful in setting up the dinner experience for us.
The Stewart is intimate, seating around 14-16 at low tables and maybe another 6- 8 at the bar. The decor is reminiscent of an old English estate's den. When we arrived, we were greeted promptly and seated. The staff was wonderful. On being seated, we were offered the opportunity for a drink of scotch or champagne. The Scotch list is overwhelming so Adam, the bartender, asked if we had preferences and we told him to pick for us, which he did after asking about each person's tastes. He absolutely nailed it - finding one or more drams for each to try that matched up with the taste profile given to him and then expanding on it with the next offering. The rest of our group picked out a great bottle of champagne (or two) and were enjoying them.
I think we ordered and shared almost every item on the menu. Our service could not have been better. Everyone's plates were removed or served at the same time by the waitstaff and the pacing made for a leisurely dinner as we ended up spending nearly three hours. The chef and assistant chef came out and introduced themselves so that we could personally thank them for an incredible meal. Our service could not have been friendlier or more welcoming. The bartender loved the challenge of finding scotches for both the experienced and inexperienced drinker. He educated us at the same time and never talked down to us or made us feel that we weren't sophisticated enough to appreciate what was being offered. Although somewhat pricey, I can say without hesitancy that the meal was worth every penny and then some. The service, atmosphere, and delicious food make this a very special place - I live in a large city and we don't have anything locally that comes close to what The Stewart offers, which is even more amazing as it is in the small town of Easton. If you don't drink Scotch or champagne, then you really won't appreciate what The Stewart offers, but for other dining experiences check Bluepoint Hospitality Group for other options.
A couple of days later, we were in the market around the corner from The Stewart and one of the servers recognized us and came out to chat with us, and asked if I was still enjoying my birthday. We responded we had come back to enjoy the full Bluepoint Hospitality experience, which includes Sunflowers and Greens, Bonheur, The Wardroom, the Weather Gage, Bas Rouge, Bumblebee Juice and the Flying Cloud Bookstore, all in Easton.
All-in-all one of the best experiences our family has ever enjoyed and if you are in Easton and have the time and inclination, I can't recommend a visit to The Stewart...
Read moreNot a lot of redeeming qualities, so I’ll hop into my three main concerns about The Stewart.
TERRIBLE CHAIRS & TABLES: The chairs were so low to the ground and the backs so far from the seat that I felt closer to reclining in a bed than eating at a table. Additionally, the base of the table was so awkward and large that there was almost nowhere to put my feet. I was uncomfortable throughout the entire dinner experience.
UNDERCOOKED MEAT: My medium strip steak was practically cow-to-plate rare, and I would’ve asked for it to be re-fired but was not able to get the attention of waitstaff (see next point).
SLOW SERVICE: It took more than an hour to receiver our dinner, the rare strip steak and a hamburger. Next to our table was the owner of Bluepoint Hospitality, Paul Prager, and the waitstaff was definitely attentive to his table instead—for understandable reasons (jobs that depend on his investment). While food and service was lavished on that table, we waited and waited instead.
Maybe if Mr. Prager wasn’t in the restaurant it would have been a different experience, but we’ll never know—I will not be back. And the food was certainly nothing special in my...
Read moreTraveling for work has its challenges, but discovering a gem like The Stewart in Easton, MD is the best kind of silver lining. I was looking for a spot with a great bar and a strong wine list—and this place delivered.
The space is intimate, cozy, and beautifully designed. I grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered their Old Fashioned made with Lowlands scotch—fantastic. The bartender was warm, knowledgeable, and fun to chat with (especially about glassware, which they clearly care about).
Dinner was a perfectly cooked medium-rare steak with sweet potatoes, broccoli rabe, and a soy ginger reduction. The wine list impressed me more than most I’ve seen since moving from San Francisco. I had a French Syrah by the glass, served in the most featherlight stemware.
The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. If I’d had room, I’d have tried the toffee pudding—but I’ll be back. Can’t wait to return with my husband so he can enjoy the scotch...
