UPDATE: I was reached out by Kevin Inkles (Sr Regional Manager-West) personally and I was able to provide the feedback that I had experienced to him on Valentines Day. Let me tell you this man is a caring person, he valued our opinions and he was very apologetic on the experience that we had. He wanted to make things right and for us to come back so he can show us the experience we were suppose to have. He wanted for us to come back and he said he would take care of everything including our tab and reservation and everything else, he was definitely about his words! And I'm very grateful and appreciate for him and how he actually cares for his customers . At first I was hesitant to take the offer, but how he was speaking to me and showing compassion and care I wanted to put trust in him and his words, and I'm glad I did because he really showed out for us. Kevin wanted to take care of everything and show us a good time and experience that he knows Kona grill is capable to do. He told me to come back at anytime just shoot him a text and he will take care of it.
I texted him and ask if it was ok to come back for my birthday which would happen exactly a week from the Valentine's Day incident with my boyfriend and two of my closest friends this time. Kevin replied in such a timely manner and was very fast in his response, I was really amazed!
So I Literally just got back from my birthday dinner and it was AMAZING. They literally UP'D their game from the last week I was there! I am super full and very happy and satisfied with the experience they showed us. Kevin told me Nicole which is the assisted manager was going to take care of me, she most definitely did. She came and greeted us and introduced herself and apologized on behalf of everything that happened last week. She even got down to eye level with us because we were sitting which is something I notice and that's respect I can give her. That means a lot , not a lot of people do that now a days and that's a real person. Thank you Nicole. Our server Corey was amazing ! He was professional, outgoing and funny and had the table laughing the whole night. Corey and Nicole continuously checked on us to make sure we were doing good and everything was good, which everything was i almost teared up because they were really attentive with us and gave us amazing service. Now THIS is customer service ! THIS is the Kona grill I know!
We got to meet the chef ourselves thanks to Nicole! We were hesitant on ordering because we are humble and didn't wanna spurge like that because that's how we are, but we were insisted to just enjoy ourselves and order anything we want and to just enjoy our time there!
For appetizers we got avocado eggrolls, Kg sliders, potstickers and tuna tartare. Everything came out hot and fast and the presentation of the food was beautiful and everything was delicious ! For the main course, I ordered the surf and turf with the wagyu, sweet chili green beans, lobster tail and whipped mash potatoes. bf got similar but with filet mignon and everything was DELICIOUS. My plate was cleared by the time I was done. Friends orders sushi it was all beautiful and fantastic as well. All I can say is all the food we had WAS ON POINT. Even desert! Thank you chef for doing your thing in the kitchen tonight!
Lastly, I want to THANK Kevin, Nicole, Corey and to the Chef again from the bottom of my heart and all of us for showing us such a different and amazing experience. We are grateful and appreciative of you guys taking care for us and taking care of everything, showing us GREAT customer service and having us leave with smiles on our faces and a very full belly. This will be a forever memorable birthday I had. you guys deserve the 5 star and more if I could! I highly recommend Kona grill to everyone. Thank you for being about your words and taking it to the next level and taking care of your customer. YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST. Thank you for the amazing night and amazing service ! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Definitely an improvement from the last visit,...
Read moreOk so we stopped by on Thursday night a bit late 9 PM Vikings game at bar.
Sat at bar to watch game and eat. We were excited to grab some sushi and other items. With the reviews etc, we were excited to eat.
First item we ordered comes out.. Calamari was seriously horrible, probably worst we have ever had. Overcooked, super chewy, flavor of light sauce was also off. We told the bar tender he was awesome immediately tookmit off the bill, very polite.
We order 4 different Sushi rolls , spicy tempura Shrimp and a fish taco.
Fish taco was ok again I would say the fried fish in taco was over cooked. The sauce served with fish taco was very good.
Spicy Shrimp Tempura was served similar to Bang Bang shrimp. Small shrimp in temp batter the sauced. The sauce had very little flavor and a bit of an after taste. Almost zero spice and was definitely off on flavor strike two. We made the shrimp dish ok by dipping the shrimp in the taco sauce from above. Made it much better.
Sushi... 4 rolls just quick overview. Nothing bad the spicy tuna is more of a paste, blended heavy. Not bad but different than most places. Crunchy Crab roll was good.
Bama roll was also good, with good blend of spicy, tuna and cream cheese. While the roll was good, the tuna was tender we felt the tuna wasn't super fresh.
4th roll was Rainbow roll.. again not bad not great... Felt like we hit there on a Thursday night and they get fresh Sushi fish on Friday. I know we were in Minnesota so pretty far from where tuna, salmon and yellow fin were caught.
Overall the sushi was just ok. Calamari was horrible. Shrimp was not good due to poor sauce. Fish taco was ok.
We went in excited to eat and hungry. If we had not been at bar during happy hour we probably are upset. Honestly, if I went for any occasion and had the food I would have been super upset by the quality. Place was was not very busy so that was not an excuse.
Hate giving bad reviews or ever sending food back. Definitely over all not good food, service was good, cool...
Read moreWhile visiting Minneapolis for my first time with my family, we arrived at Spark by Hilton down the street and hit this place for dinner. It was a Monday and they had all day happy hour food and drinks. Thank goodness cause their prices were a little steep in my opinion ($21 for a sushi roll?). I got a spicy tune roll and shrimp tempura. My gluten free wife got the macadamia chicken. Her's first, there was no where it said this was a breaded chicken, and therefor not GF. We sent that back and she got Lettuce Wraps instead, which she did enjoy. My turn, the food tasted good, was very surprised they used canned tuna rather then a piece of fish. I have seen that before but only from cheap sushi on conveyor belt kind of places. Also, they chopped the shrimp up into small pieces rather then a tempura battered shrimp, but that isn't a big deal. I guess I expected more from a nice restaurant in a town that is known for fishing the river and lakes in the area. But the real reason I am writing this review is the food poisoning. While my daughters and wife explored the Mall of America, I was in bed. It began in the wee hours of the night. Now my girls have never heard me get sick, and honestly I don't think I have since my college years and that was self inflicted. This was loud explosive vomiting. I have never been poisoned by a restaurant before. I was so ill. I spent the night on a bathroom floor. My girls had a good day the next day while I couldn't keep water down. On a bright note, I didn't have to share in the driving home to Denver the next day. My girls were happy cause the didn't have Dad saying no to all the stuff they wanted to buy at the Mall of America. And we stopped in Omaha for an extra day of vacation cause it was too long of a drive for just one person to make. One less PTO day for both of us. The cost of going to this restaurant was huge for my family. I highly recommend going anywhere else! ...
