Urban Tomato isn’t just a neighborhood pizzeria—it feels like a celebration of Italian comfort food done right. Every dish tells you the kitchen takes pride in flavor, quality, and balance. The pizzas alone are reason enough to come back: from the crisp simplicity of the plain pie to the bold punch of the buffalo chicken, the layered richness of the chicken parm, and the fresh garden brightness of the bruschetta pizza, each one offers its own personality.
The supporting cast is just as strong. The chicken parmigiana sandwich is a masterpiece in handheld form—juicy chicken tucked into bread that can stand up to the sauce without falling apart, layered with cheese that ties it all together. Their pasta, meanwhile, proves that simple can be exceptional: perfectly cooked noodles paired with sauces that feel homemade, hearty, and crafted with care.
What elevates Urban Tomato beyond just “great food” is the hospitality. The staff make you feel less like a customer and more like a guest at their table. The attentiveness, patience, and genuine warmth create an atmosphere where you want to linger a little longer—even after the last bite.
Taken together, Urban Tomato is more than a restaurant—it’s an experience. It’s where you bring friends who love pizza, where you order pasta when you want comfort on a plate, where you know the staff will treat you like family. It’s the kind of place that makes you grateful for local gems: unpretentious, passionate about food, and committed to making every visit memorable.
If you’re anywhere near Edgewater, NJ, Urban Tomato is a must-visit. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick slice, a hearty sandwich, or a sit-down pasta dinner, you’ll walk out not just full,...
Read moreWe ordered a Margherita pie and an order of chicken wings for delivery. It’s a basic enough order that if a place can do these right, we’ll be willing to try more of the menu down the road. Not happening here. Giving 1 star for following typed notes (we asked for plain wings). While the chicken wings were crispy as another reviewer stated, they’re flavorless, salty and they were dark (probably because we were one of the last few orders they received so the oil was well used). They tasted like frozen chicken wings they took from a bag and threw in a fryer. Margherita pizza…Uhhh. Let’s start with first, I paid for an added topping- they didn’t put it. I’m not sure what was Margherita about the pizza because we basically received a regular plain cheese pizza with added dots of fresh mozzarella and basil on it. The plain regular cheese they used was salty and sharp. We couldn’t taste the flavor/creaminess of the fresh mozzarella. San Marzano tomatoes- wouldn’t know because the plain cheese part was so salty. Total disappointment. My husband and I ate one slice. The rest of the pizza went to the garbage. A waste of food (which we hate but it was just bad), waste of money and too late to order from another pizza place to make up for it. Wanted to support local and I did read a negative review someone else posted and I thought he was brutal questioning whether he had Covid or not because there was no flavor in his order, but no, I totally get him now. The $1 pizza slice joints in the city have more flavor than this...
Read moreI don’t understand how this place received a rating of 8.1 . Their pizza is a 5 at best. We ordered a cheese pizza and it came out in less than 10mins, which was surprising. The pizza was warm despite the waiter claiming it just came out the oven. This was clearly a reheated pizza. The pizza has no flavor the cheese is low quality and the tomato sauce is barely seen. The cheese was reheated so bad it became a part of the dough. Every pizza that is made FRESH to order should have cheese pulling apart with every bite not fused with the dough. This explains why the restaurant was empty. My son ordered a chicken parm sandwich and was presented with about 90% bread and 10% chicken. The chef couldn’t even take the time to evenly cut the bread down the middle so that the chicken could be put inside the sandwich. Instead they cheap out on their portion by cutting it down 1/3 and making it appear that the chicken is overflowing when in reality it’s not. If they truly take pride in their establishment, how could they allow the food to be sent out of the kitchen and presented to the customer in such an utterly disgusting fashion. They will not survive by cutting corners and scamming customers. Clearly, the effect has already taken place, it was a Friday night and the...
