Yumi is an absolutely delicious Japanese restaurant in Edina. The knowledgeable and friendly waitress made recommendations and suggested the Bob Marley Roll (not on the menu). The roll is sweet from the mango salsa, spicy from the chili oil, and a unique mix of fish, avocado, etc. The California Roll is beyond imitation crab as this roll has real crab, which is really nice. The seaweed salad is something beautifully presented with shredded carrots, cucumber, water cress (looked like), and a delightful dressing on the bottom of the bowl. The calamari was lightly fried but light to eat with a nice sweet sauce. All of these are my recommendations and pair that will be a balanced, not overly sweet. Take It To Go libation served in a to-go box. 𤩠Take note that portions are generous, less is more, and order more if you ate little. š
Update: The Mexican roll is a buttery, melt in your mouth. A suggestion is to boost the flavor up as the chili oil did not add much spice. The fruitiness of ponzu could have been paired with a fruit salsa like the mango salsa on the Bob Marley roll. Angelene is great at offering suggestions!
Restaurant week is a killer deal with an appetizer, your choice of yumi roll (2-3 to pick), and dessert of ice cream or mochi. Note if on the menu, the combo sushi roll of California roll and Spicy tuna is the best bang!
Update on restaurant week as they've changed the menu a little. You can pick 2 appetizers, and sushi roll choices are 8-10 pieces. They've added 3 new sushi rolls: Souzo Roll, Peppermint Roll, and Marianne Roll. I tried the suggested Souzo Roll consisting of salmon, crab, truffles, and some green shoots, or sea greens. Chefs kiss to that suggestion from Mara...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have enjoyed Yumi on three separate occasions, and each visit has been a culinary delight. The atmosphere has got a cool vibe that feels hip but relaxed. Every server weāve encountered has been a huge fan of the food, and they have made excellent recommendations.
The food is outstanding, as in āclose your eyes to enjoy itā good. Weāve tried several of their sushi rolls, and every one has been something remarkable. They are HUGE. Donāt be scared off by the prices: you will definitely get your moneys worth as the rolls are 2 to 3 times larger than most other places, and the sushi chefs are very generous with the proteins. The flavor combinations are symphonic, and widely varied. There will be a selection to delight every sushi fan.
Our most recent visit featured the udon beef and mushroom soup, which may have been the surprise highlight of the night. Recommended by our very friendly, knowledgeable, and skilled server as one of her favorites, it lived up to billing. Complex combinations of sweet and spicy plus perfectly cooked noodles and beef. Delicious.
We also tried the Kobe beef entrĆ©e, which was reminiscent of the tastiest Bulgogi iāve ever had.
As if the amazing flavors werenāt enough, the presentation is always flawless.
Overall, I cannot recommend Yumi...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStopped in without a reservation at 6:30 on a Friday, no table but plenty of room at the bar. It was busy but not noisy and even though they had tvs behind the bar, volume was down.
Jonatan the bartender was friendly without being intrusive and offered suggestions which we took a couple and they did not disappoint.
The titanic roll was topped with guacamole which oddly worked and we loved it. The crispy rice spicy tuna app was perfectly cooked and ample tuna on top. Both were very fresh and had good quality fish. Calamari although well cooked with a tasty dipping sauce isnāt something I think Iād order again because the menu had lots of other options. We shared two apps and a roll and that was plenty for us.
We had the Hanami Spritz and Big in Japan cocktails..forgot the photo but they were very refreshing.
Definitely will go back. You cannot enter the restaurant from the mall, you have to enter off of parking lot, itās between Macyās and...
