Amboy Bagel — Restaurant in Edison

I have stopped coming here for a variety of reasons.

A customer ahead of me ordered a toasted bagel. Apparently the guy (owner) behind the counter recognized him as he said, "hey, you remember me? I'm from the other bagel place but I'm working here now..." The conversation went on, but the owner said to the other staff member, "make sure to get this guy the fresh bagel from the back"... Their conversation went on and on while I waited on line to place my order. The owner again said to the staff (unprompted), "make sure to get this guy the fresh bagels from the back". This made me keep thinking to myself, what are they giving me and other customers, the old bagels at the display? Anyway, I placed my order & paid at the counter. (My sandwich was made quickly!) A young woman rung me up & I paid via credit card. She didn't have me sign or anything but after maybe 3 seconds or so, I stood there and asked her, didn't I have to sign the screen as I had made purchases here in the past & remember having to tap the screen each time. She then flipped her touch screen around to me, good thing I had asked as the screen was on the tip selection menu. I'll chalk this up to an innocent mistake this time, but then again she was not busy and I find it odd that she was just waiting for me to leave the counter while the screen faced her with the tip selection facing her.

The bagels are generally not hot but they're not stale either. The bagels are decent, but you'll never get them hot. I've dropped by at different times on different days.

Sandwiches are ok - there was barely any egg on my sandwich one time,. twice my sandwich had oil dripping from it.

Adding this comment based on my last visit: The owner seems to micromanage the staff as they look frozen when I ask them a question & the manager is always not too far away jumping in to answer or tell the staff what to say even though I'm in front of them seeing and hearing them. I'd hate to hear how he talks to his staff when there are...

Probably the worst bagel store experience I've ever had. I ordered thru UberEats, so that my order came in writing and was very descriptive etc. They called to let me know they were out of plain bagels (my order included 8 of them) which is no problem and appreciated and we went thru my order figuring out replacement bagels. 45 seconds after we hung up, my order changed to en route to be delivered. When it arrived only the half dozen bagels was (almost) as we discussed on the phone. I ordered a ham & provolone cheese deli sandwich on a plain bagel (changed to poppy)not toasted and instead received 2 or 3 pieces of Taylor ham, a slice of American cheese loaded with more ketchup than meat and cheese combined on an overly toasted poppy bagel, I paid $3.00 for macaroni salad only to receive the tiny little free one that should've came with the ham sandwich I didn't receive anyway, I also ordered a plain bagel with butter NOT toasted (also changed to poppy) and received a soggy over toasted buttered poppy bagel that was leaking butter oil all over everything else..the bagel was black around the edge and rock hard while the middle was soggy mush. A complete and utter waste of money, and now no lunch after...

I came in to purchase sandwiches for my family, I was charged $25 for a 12” roll with egg whites, cheese, peppers and onions. When i asked for an itemized receipt to gain better understanding of how 1 sandwich with no meat cost that much, the owners son then tried to correct me from his seat at a table behind me, when I was speaking to the owner, and answered my questions rudely and smug, like I had no right to question there establishment. As we walked out the owners son decided to jump out his seat and try to continue the conversation that he was not even involved in and chase me towards the door because we questioned the pricing on the food purchased. He scared me and my aunt that I came with. This young man was yelling and throwing his hands around, shaking as he stood yelling in front of me. I was also called a racist and kicked out of the store because I questioned my receipt, and never once was race even spoke about in this dispute. I will not be returning to this establishment and I encourage all future patrons to ask all the right questions BEFORE approaching the store because this might be the result for...
