The Pizza Man — Restaurant in Effingham

I placed an order for delivery on an (apparently) busy Friday night. My order was much later than I had been told it would be so I called the restaurant to ask for some sort of compensation towards my total bill. Unfortunately, as I was on the phone with the owner, the delivery driver showed up with our food and collected a cash payment from my nephew.

So, there was really no way for him to comp my bill at all now and I'm from Wisconsin so a gift card wouldn't have been any good to me. Once I explained all of this, the owner offered to come back to my hotel to give me $15 in cash as compensation. I never expected he would show up but he did! Only like ten minutes later!

I know that was a long story, sorry 😂. Aside from the phenomenal job of meeting customer satisfaction, the food was great as well! I threatened to write a bad google review but the way this was handled was the best customer service I've ever received (especially for a delivery order). So I thought it was just as important to write a positive review because "The Pizza Man"...

I was a walk-in on Thursday, August 8th. The place was filling up as I waited for my pizza. I waited 30 minutes. I’m from Effingham but moved away in 1990. I used to work there through lunch in the late 80’s. I worked for a woman named Sherry, great boss. The pizza was disappointing, one edge (nearly 3 slices were missing) when I got to my destination and opened it. It was dry and toppings were 1” away from the outside, all the way around. Not like I’ve had. The sauce was bland. I took a salad to go as well and the salad bar was good as always. A lot of toppings and kept full. I’ll be back, but hope it’s better next time. Took a gamble because Joe's wasn't open for lunch, and I gotta say it is not worth $25 for a passable, but not great, 14" pie with 2 toppings and 6 very disappointing wings

Dough too thick, sauce is lacking depth of flavor, and their wings appear to be from the same supplier you get when you order from any given fast food chain, so it's not surprising that they're small, flavorless, and soggy.

I get the impression that little to nothing is prepared on-site here, and there is a LOT of canned sauce and frozen dough being used. They don't even make their own ranch or blue cheese which is honestly the bare minimum. Shameful and lazy for anyone who takes pride...
