Gabacho's Mexican Grill — Restaurant in El Lago

This restaurant will RIP you off. PLEASE LOOK through the other reviews and see how many others have been scammed by this place. They add money to your credit card or plain out steal your card. Its ridiculous.

The waitress was less than sub-par. Not extremely rude but not friendly either. She checked on us twice during our meal. She would typically ask us from about 10 feet away, in a whisper voice, as she was walking away if we needed anything. She didn't try to even force a small smile even when I tried talking to her. She just slightly acknowledged me, and walked away. I am typically a decent tipper. I start at $10 and if they do good, their tip increases. If they don't, it goes down. I felt that she did the bare minimum she should do, and chose to give her $8 cash. Once again, she was not nasty, just apparently didn't want to be bothered. When we left, I signed my CC receipt with no tip and left $8 cash for the tip. The next day, I was checking my bank statement and noticed that I was charged $10 more than what my meal cost. I added everything up and was positive they/she added $10 to my receipt. I screwed up by leaving all 3 copies of the receipt on the table and I presume she added $10. I called the restaurant and asked for a manager. The woman who answered asked for a brief explanation of why before telling me there was not a manager there at the time but someone would call me back. It never happened. I called back after a week and tried again. I spoke with a woman and told her what happened. She shrugged me off and said I must have had more margaritas than I remember. This place is a joke.

At first, I was pretty mad and thought about contacting the police. I'm not trying to be petty but she/they committe fraud. It's been over a week now and I have "cooled off" I guess, but in the end, the woman got a $18 tip when she barely deserved the $8 I gave her, if that. So my review is, the food was ok, the location was favorable, the inside of the restaurant was nice but considering they stole from me, I will never go back. The owner looks at customers weird also. Like he doesn't like customers or something. It's strange. Be cautious and keep your receipts if you decide to go here but I would choose to...

A group of 4 of us had dinner here Jan 16 friday nite. We were from Calif staying overnite nearby on route to a cruise out of Houston port. After a cab dropped us off, we had a pleasant dinner and drinks. Staff was nice and prices were reasonable. We also liked the entertainment, a single man singing and playing the guitar. Our troubles began when we couldnt get a cab to come back out and take us back to our hotel, which as about a mile and 1/2 away! After waiting over an hour, and it getting later and later, (it was about 9 PM) the owner (im sorry I forgot his name) heard of our dilemma and offered to take us himself! When is THAT ever done these days? Needless to say, with his kindness, what would have been a long walk by 4 women in a strange town in the cold, was turned into a grateful ride back to our hotel. 5 Stars All Around. From the time we walked in we could tell this could, and would turn out to be one of our best dining experiences! The Staff Greeting was Cheerful and Genuine. The aroma from the kitchen made our taste buds Tingle in anticipation! The waitress was Friendly and knowledgeable of today's Special and current menu items! Our Enchilada Dinners, both Chicken and Beef were very Authentic Tasting and Well Presented. The guacamole was the Best, we had ever tasted. The Sweet Tea was a bit weak and not as sweet as we expected, but it did Not effect our Rating of this overwhelmingly Cozy and Genuine Mexican Food Restaurant. Their 23 years of experience has shown why they are definitely a favorite of Locals as visitors from out of town!

If you Enjoy Great Mexican Cuisine, Gabacho's is well worth the Drive!
