I’ve been to the Carlos and Mickeys location by Ft Bliss a couple times so I kind of knew what to expect going in. I’m surprised the decor doesn’t really match the other location, which I thought was nice. It kind of gave an authentic Mexican restaurant experience. However, this location definitely feels more corporate. It’s still nice though, I just missed all the fun decor.
My husband and I sat in the bar area which was somewhat busy at the time. I will say we both felt bad for the poor bartender that was running around making drinks, taking orders from customers at the bar while also handling customers seated at the high top tables. I definitely think he was overworked and needed help because the service was quite slow due to him handling so many areas.
We ordered the bandido fries as appetizer. Be forewarned, it is actually huge potato wedges rather than actual fries. We were surprised by what we were served but it didn’t taste bad. The description just made it sound like loaded fries.
For drinks I got the mango margarita and my husband ordered a beer on tap. The regular size margarita is good size for one person but I did see a HUGE size they offer that looks like it’s meant for a group. The flavor was very light but still there. I’d definitely try other flavors next time, they have alot of fruity options!
For our main course, my husband ordered the shrimp fajitas and I got the Mexico City combination. My combination consisted of a taco, enchilada, tamale and chile relleno - with beans and rice on the side. Everything tasted good, I will say the tamale was a tad bit dry. The Chile relleno was huge and filled with soooo much cheese. A big plus for anyone that favors this dish.
Overall the quality of food matches the other Carlos and Mickeys location. I get that this isn’t super authentic Mexican food but it does the job. Other than the service lacking, I’d say it was a good experience. Hopefully they can learn to have an actual server help with the bar area so guests aren’t waiting a long time...
Read moreBefore I begin, I just want to say my rating is for the service and not for the food/drinks.
I am a regular at this location as I absolutely love the frozen margaritas so I took my friend there for lunch on a Friday and things started bad. We asked for a bar table and they sat us in the back, a step away from the back door when there were other tables clearly available. We decided to stay there and order food, which was great. After we were finished, we found an open table by the bar so we moved. A manager by the name of Yanira came by and very rudely said we couldn't just move tables as there were other people waiting for those tables and that we had to get on the list, which we did. We went back to the original table and they went to get us shortly after to move back to the bar area. We were thankful for the short wait time and went back with drinks we had ordered while sitting at the table. Not long after that, we both went to the restroom and when we got back our table was cleared out. They had taken our unfinished food and drinks. When I asked Yanira why it was cleared out, she again very rudely, said she thought we had left so they cleared it out. I explained how we had just gone to the restroom and she said, well you didn't have a tab open so how was I supposed to know you were coming back. I told her our tab had been paid while we were sitting at the other table which is why we didn't have a current tab. I asked for our drinks back so she brought us half filled glasses as that what we assumed was left on our drinks. As we finished our drinks, we saw her yell at one of the bartenders in front of other patrons which I thought was very rude. We left extremely disappointed. Love this place, the bartenders are always super nice and the drinks are always on point. However, the service Yanira provided...
Read moreI cannot say enough about this location! From the food to the decor and service I feel this location is so much better than the one by the airport. I frequent this restaurant at least once a month and I've never ever had a bad experience. The food is phenomenal and always fresh. The alcoholic beverages are delicious and reasonably priced for the size. I would highly recommend going for lunch for the best experience. Dinner service tends to be very busy and the wait can be long as this location is smaller than the other.
On a personal note the BEST service I have ever had in any restaurant has been with Alfonso. This man is at the top of his game every time. He is so kind and brings you things before you even have to ask. We go so often he already knows our orders. The entire staff are very attentive and welcoming.
I love all the decorations in there and appreciate the lack of dust and cobwebs given how much adorn the walls. They have live music during dinner service although I'm not sure if it's every night as I tend to prefer lunch. If you are looking for food recommendations you cannot go wrong with the carnitas plate. And as a lover of Tex-Mex my go to is the chile con queso smothered chicken chimichanga. My son says they have the best tenders and fries in El Paso. I do appreciate the variety in the kids menu as well. Oh and the nachos as an appetizer are top tier. Don't forget a paloma or margarita to...
