Los Aguachiles — Restaurant in El Paso

It is evident that this kitchen is in need of serious quality control and oversight. The dishes are both poorly prepared and poorly presented. If a menu item is unavailable, it would be far better to remove it for the day rather than serve a substandard version under the assumption that customers will not notice.

I ordered the mango aguachile and was served what appeared to be a bowl of Jumex mango juice with shrimp and two small cubes of frozen mango. The dish was overwhelmingly sweet, you could clearly know it was jumex juice, lacked balance, no attention to presentation, simply shrimp submerged in liquid.

I also ordered the verde aguachile, which was dominated entirely by cilantro. The consistency was unusually thick and extremely green, resembling a blended juice, with no detectable lemon to balance the flavors.

This establishment used to be great. But my last 2 experiences have been beyond terrible. I don’t know if they changed owners, management, or what happened. For starters the staff isn’t very nice when you come in, you’re not even greeted, you feel like you’re bothering someone instead of asking for some service. Last time I ordered a shrimp cocktail for pick-up, the avocado was as hard as a rock, I noticed when I was home, couldn’t eat that. I thought it was bad luck, so oh well, I ordered the same thing a couple of days later. So, second time, I pick up the shrimp cocktail that seems to be getting smaller in a quite poorly bagged paper bag. Long story short, the cocktail only made it to my car, where the shrimp cocktail broke through the bag because (I didn’t know) the salsas had all spilled. We ordered a Shrimp Cocktail and some fish tacos. We waited and awhile and then the server told us our food would be delayed because the printer where the orders are taken had run out of paper. Waited again then I noticed a couple that had ordered 10 minutes after us received their shrimp cocktail and were told their tacos would be right out. Waited some more then my cocktail arrived. At this point I was sharing my cocktail with my wife because her fish tacos were still being made. Waited again then we heard the server tell the kitchen staff she was still pending two orders of fish tacos. At this point I got up and asked her to cancel my order since we were late for an appointment. No apology whatsoever.
