Portugal Express — Restaurant in Elizabeth

My kid ended up with a cockroach inside his mouth. He ordered his favorite dessert chocolate mousse, on one of his last bites, he took something out of his mouth which my husband thought it was hairs, i was hoping it was part of the ingredients, after my kid took it out of his mouth due to the sensation of feeling something inside a mousse that its supposed to be fully smooth, he handed it to me i put it on the palm of my hand and after i looked at it closely, it was a freaking 1inch size roach. I was in shock so was my husband since this is a place that me and my Portuguese family has frequent for so many years. We were also disgusted and couldnt believe it. I told the waiter right away and she took everything from the table as fast as she could without allowing me taking a picture of it. She came back ( not the manager or owner) and apologized and said the full meal was in the house and nothing else that she could do. My husband and I were still speechless and in shock. We won't ever return to this place. My kid wanted to cry and I am thinking from now on he will be afraid to eat anything outside especially his favorite chocolate mousse. I’ve been visiting this incredible Portuguese restaurant since my college days, and it has truly become a cherished part of my life. Even though I’ve never been to Portugal, dining here has made it a top destination on my bucket list!

The food is nothing short of exceptional. Back when I ate meat, I couldn’t resist their delicious sausage and perfectly cooked steak served with rice and beans—truly a meal to remember. Everything is always made fresh, which means it might take a bit longer, but that’s a small price to pay for such quality.

The wait staff is consistently friendly, making each visit feel welcoming and warm. The ambiance radiates authenticity, and I love the vibrant atmosphere that captures the essence of Portuguese culture.

I have so many wonderful memories tied to this place, from celebratory dinners to casual meals with friends. Whether you're a seasoned fan of Portuguese cuisine or a newcomer, you won't be disappointed. I can’t wait to return soon and create even more memories at this...

This restaurant has been one of my favorite places to enjoy delicious food for almost 20 years. It was the place that I chose to celebrate my wedding day. I wanted something small but elegant. Now I am moving to a new state and my cousin and I thought that the best way to remember all the things that we have been through was to have dinner in this restaurant. We asked for the usual red sangria and Polvo Grelhado. The dish was completely burned and for the price, I think it was very little food. What has happened to this amazing place? Now also they don't give the customers the delicious black and green olives that they usually served when you were waiting for your food. Is it about the pandemic? Be careful Elizabeth is full of great restaurants so it is very easy to change your mind and find a new favorite place to enjoy with your family and friends...It is so sad to lose a fine touch and just be one...
