I don't even know where to begin. I'd heard about Santillo's for years, always because of their well known, long standing history and delicious pizza. I always got confused about where the location was however. Finally, after being born and raised around the area, I got the opportunity to come by. It was my sons birthday and all I wanted to do was bring home a pizza from Al Santillo's!! So I went on my way. Took a little walk there (which was a bit of nostalgia for me). Or you can take a bus, or drive, or run there. However you do it ...I insist you do it. And the very next time you need some delicious, homemade, true authentic food. It's a place you walk up to and place your order, very simple - just review the menu posted right outside the door (go on the side of the building where the benches are, you'll see it). Then you go in the door to a counter, place the order, and are given a time to come back and pick up ***I didn't call ahead but my food was still done quickly I wanted to try a standard pie and I was able to wait outside and just enjoy a bit of mama alone time before going back inside to get my food. When I tell you this food is worth every single dollar, I mean it. And as a mama of two growing, hungry, little guys I need affordable yet quality food. Santillo's fits the bill. You can taste the experience, the care, and ingredients that are the best around. I didn't even get a block away before I felt the need to eat a slice! I brought it home to the kiddos who inhaled their slices. And it tastes even better reheated the next day. Al has garlic and red pepper flakes and napkins at the door before you go if you want to add a little something (but it really doesn't need a thing). Al himself is right in the middle of it all, doing everything for his business and keeping it truly a local institution for some of the greatest pizza you will ever taste. ***Just remember, you can customize what you order to a T. So try everything you can until you discover your perfect pizza. Santillo's has got what you want and need covered! And you are supporting a business with over a 100 years of experience and local standing but with national recognition. You can't go wrong.

To start, because of all the hype, I will try to be detailed and will be "nitpicking". Pie ordered : large Sicilian with pepperoni, mushrooms, and sesame seed crust. 8 minutes. I saw a recent reviewer got this pie and wanted to try it. Long story short, I believe that if you haven't been, it's totally worth the price and the drive. Ample parking, no worries whatsoever Friday at 5pm. That helps a lot. I didn't realize you couldn't go inside and you pick it up through a door on the side. Online ordering is nice and worked perfectly. I really enjoyed the pizza. Easily in the upper echelon of pizza that I have had and I've had a lot of the famous ones in NJ. I live within walking distance of Delucias in fact. This had the best crust I have ever had, bar none. The sesame seed crust is amazing and well worth it. 8 minutes cook time, fairly dark crust suits my preference perfectly. Toppings were good. Plenty of cheese and adequate sauce. I got the Sicilian because it's thicker and I wanted filling pizza paying these prices. The thin pizza is good and all but often not that filling. The sauce was pretty bland. I see why some folks don't like it. To me it didn't detract from the experience that much. We ate in the car. I'm not sure if pepper flakes or other toppings are available but consider bringing your own just in case. The primary reason why I am not giving this 5 stars is the price. This pizza was $44 after tax. That's very high and nearly double the cost of other pizza shops. Where does it end? Will it be $75 in a few years? $100? Where do we draw the line? Anyway, I can see myself getting a craving for the sesame seed crust and coming back for sure, a little more prepared with bringing pepper flakes parmesan cheese etc. Thank you for the great pizza and memorable experience.
