My wife and I visited the restaurant Friday Aug 2nd 2013 around 4pm to beat the dinner crowd. It had been awhile since either of us had eaten a steak. We've tended to shy away from red meat the past few years and most of the old steakhouses are now "all you can eat" buffets. The atmosphere of an "all you can eat" buffet is best likened to being caught in a stampede of rude obnoxious obese slack jawed Troglodytes who have been unsuccessful in their hunting gathering endeavors the past several weeks. Steam tables in the midst of a riot.
Our visit to LongHorn was most enjoyable. There was no wait (take note of the time) for a table. Wait staff was personable and very attentive. Though I'd already made up my mind what I intended to have I intentionally asked our waitress for her recommendation to test her knowledge and honesty. She was very knowledgeable on the different cuts of meat available and suggested her favorite based upon my desire for a flavorful cut above other considerations.
I had a New York strip medium rare and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived at the table grilled to perfection and in only about ten minutes. The steak appeared to have been seared after the application of a rub that hinted of Italian seasonings. Though there was a pronounced flavor of oregano it was not overpowering and, though surprised at the choice of herbs, found it contributed to a very flavorful seasoning mix. As a word of warning to those who cannot deal with any type of pepper the seasoning mix for the rub did seem to include a fair amount of cracked black pepper that, though I enjoyed the "bite" it added to the rub, others may find overwhelming. It may behoove those with sensitive pallets to ask for a sample of the rub to taste prior to ordering to avoid disappointment. It was fairly spicy but I found it very enjoyable.
As we dined the manager visited the table to assure our satisfaction with our meal and the service. An added touch that was a welcome reminder of yesteryear when devotion to service and quality separated good restaurants from the greasy spoons.
Overall, our visit was most enjoyable made so by stellar service and excellent food. The cherry on top was the cost. Considering what we ate the cost was very reasonable. Salads, drinks and the higher end cuts (no room for dessert) was around fifty dollars for my wife and I. As a consummate cheapskate I will attest to the value against the cost being well worth the modest price. My wife was first to suggest that we return again soon which was her, never before heard, stamp of approval.
If you enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, a tasty steak and good value for the money you spend I highly recommend a visit to...
Read moreUpdate: We did come back and since we have left. We came back for a few months and was treated really bad by a manager, the steaks have become very bad quality. We order filets every time we come and the last 6 times give or take I don't think we got filets we got sirloin for the price of filets, lots of fat and grissel. The waitress is absolutely 100% wonderful. The management don't care. I hate to leave such a wonderful waitress but she can't help where she works, especially when management don't care.
We have been coming there for a bit now, but the last 3 times we have had very crappy service, I have had to send my steak back all 3 times over done completely. We had left Texas roadhouse after 9 yrs of at least 2x a month at least, because service was getting so bad, and quality was not too far behind. We have been coming to Longhorn for almost a yr about the same as Texas Roadhouse at least 2x a month. Needless to say, I don't know if we will be coming back after this last visit. The food was delivered, my husband ate everything off his plate, and my steak, which should have been med well, was shoe leather. The waitress never came back to check on us at all, just as I was getting up to go find a manager that maybe could help my situation the waitress was at another table near us and said is something wrong? I said yes, and she said ok hang on, I will be right there." She helped another table, then finally came to me. By this time, my steak was completely cold. So I got another one, and it was a little under done, but I ate it. All alone, hubby had already eaten, and his plates were already picked up. We are very nice people, not demanding at all. All we want in return is good service and good food. No discount has ever been given to us for the last 3 visits that this stuff has happened. By the way, same waitress 2 out of the 3 times. We pay like over 60 dollars each time we come in, and waitresses get at least 20%tip and an already clean table. All they have to do is wipe it off when we leave. I don't get this. I know times are crazy since covid, but this waitress needs to find a job that she...
Read moreMy husband and I came here for our last nice meal before his deployment. We don't go out to eat often, but he wanted a big delicious steak and a relaxing atmosphere so that's why we came here.
We waited along with about 12 other people for close to 10 minutes before being seated, mind you this was 12pm on a Thursday, there were maybe 8 tables seated in the whole place. The hostess takes her sweet time coming over with a lovely annoyed look on her face. We asked for a booth instead of a table and she huffed and walked us over to one. Great start.
Our servers name was Tim. He was nice enough, but seemed a bit annoyed that we needed a minute to look over the menu, despite giving him our drink and app order immediately. We ordered our food amd despite him having like one other table he made sure to rush by anytime he came to us, never stopping long enough to actually hear if we needed something. My drink was empty, no salad dressing and I had get his attention while he buzzed by saying everything okay? And not waiting for the answer.
My husbands steak was rare, nice and cold in the middle when we asked for medium rare and the soup was lukewarm. We didn't want to bother Tim anymore so we just said screw it.
We asked for the check and boxes and my husband asked for the military discount, which ended up being 3 dollars off of a 75 dollar meal. I guess if the service member is paying for he and his wife, they don't give the discount on the whole meal, just the service members. I've never seen that before.
Overall it was unfortunately an underwhelming experience. We hadn't been here in over a year, I'm not sure what changed but we won't be back. The food was subpar and the service was as well. We're not difficult patrons, but we also don't like feeling like we're annoying you by asking for a drink refill and the salad...
