My family and I were on our way to the gym and decided to stop in for a quick bite before we began our workout. It's a 50/50 shot with taking our 4 year old son out who has ADHD and ODD because he can often act out and create a scene in a confined restaurant environment. Which unfortunately he did today at Olde Main. When it began I immediately apologized to our waitress and picked him up and brought him outside for a time out to calm down. Which wasnt a quick recovery and his father had to relinquish me of my duties after he ate. The waitress stayed with my 6 year old daughter as he came outside to meet me. She looked at me smiling and gave me a hug and told me I was a good mom for taking care of my son and knew how difficult it is to make the hard choices. She could see the stress on me that it creates when just trying to enjoy a meal with my family turns into so much work. I thanked her and sat down to eat my meal. She said she heated my food up while I was away but offered to make me a new omelet. I politely declined as I'm sure it was just fine the way it was. It was probably the best omelet I've ever had truth be told. My well behaved daughter next to me sat eating her cinnamon roll quietly as I hugged her for support during a frustrating moment. The waitress came back to me again. Gave me the check and handed me a piece of cheesecake in a to go box and told me I was a great mom. She said she worked with difficult children in schools for many years and knows how difficult it is. "Hes going to tell you he hates and kick and scream but you need to remember your doing the right thing mom and you are a great mom. Take this cheesecake to go and dont share with anyone else. Just something for you today." As I fought back my tears I was overwhelmed with gratitude for her generosity and kindness. It was truly what I needed to hear in that moment. So thank you to our waitress (I think her name was tami but I could be wrong) and thank you to Olde Main. The food was great and even though it was a challenging breakfast, your waitress completely made my day and turned it around so thank you so much. We...
Read moreFirst time visit today, and I’ll say: you seat yourself! This wasn’t readily apparent to me but I’m willing to admit I may just be daft.
Showed up around 10am to a lobby that was around half capacity, not too full but the place was definitely buzzing!
Once seated, a server swung by to drop off a menu and get a drink order, and she returned with my beverage promptly, and then grabbed my food order!
I don’t recall the name or item number but I ordered eggs, bacon, and toast—standard breakfast. Once it arrived, the eggs were cooked over easy, just as asked, and the rye toast was perfectly buttered. A previous reviewer complained of bacon being too thin and see through, but I’m confident in saying the bacon I received had some heft and while somewhat crispy, retained some juiciness to it. Overall I was pleased with the food and would go back for another round of breakfast.
One thing I want to note, the space IS an older building, and it is a little dim. Definitely an old timey feeling and unique in this way. NOW where it gets weird… if you’re not a politically conservative person, or down with evangelical Christianity, you may not love the space. From the staff attire to flags and other choice decor, the owners/managements values are on full display (as a gay man, I can’t fault them, if I owned the place there’d be at least one rainbow flag up). LAST bit on the environment: I can understand overt political expression in 2022, but the signs about SARCASM 😂😂 that harken back to the time of Happy Bunny stickers or t-shirts that you’d buy at a Spencer’s? Cmon… sarcasm? It’s 2022, shoot straight and say what you mean, sarcasm is soooo last year.
Check this spot out, good food, good service, and while prices might seem high, they reflect the reality of todays cost of goods and labor market. Keep good local...
Read moreOn my quest for the best Eggs Benedict, Old Main Eatery. First impression is it looks pretty old but, welcoming. The dining area was a lot more clean than I've seen at many, many other places. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Prices are decent also.
The order. An Everything Omelet and the afore mentioned Eggs Benedict.
The Omelet was good, texture, flavor, ingredients all flowed nicely, even the seemingly odd spinach leaves worked for me. The hashbrowns were just hashbrowns needed a bit of salt and I think the toast was store bought, even though they are next to a bread bakery.
The Benedict, I've had several that were not good but, this one was not bad. The eggs aren't poached (not a deal breaker), there was one thin slice of (I think) packaged ham (disappointing), and the holly sauce seemed a bit strong like it might have been a mix. All on top of I'm pretty sure store bought English muffins.
As I'm going over this list it sounds like I may not have liked it. It was prepared well and I did enjoy it and the overall experience does make me want to return. It will sadly not be for a favorite of mine.
4 stars because I liked the place and there are many other menu items I'd like to try, so there is room to be wowed still!
Thanks for reading, see you at...
