Sunshine Depot — Restaurant in Elk River

Never again! We had an awful experience. I don't even know where to begin. First, our waitress served us diet coke, when we ordered regular, it took her 15 minutes to get back to us so we could at least address that. That was supposed to be the simple error... it just snowballed from there. Next, it was our order of chicken, we requested "White Meat Only" for extra money... and there was some kind of mix-up/miscommunication in the kitchen , i dont know what happened, but it's made to order and takes about 15 minutes from the word "Go"... so instead of giving the cook the go-ahead to correct the mistake, the waitress came to our table to address what happened and try and coax us into accepting the dark meat... we said "No thank you". We were committed to what we ordered. Why wouldn't we be? So, only then did she go back and tell the cook to make another order....so another 15 minute wait.... Ultimately I got to eat my hamburger alone, which was fine, a simple, no frills burger, (it's why I go there). By the time our second chicken arrived we requested it to-go....but more than anything above, the worst part about waiting an extra long time for your food is the the character and ambiance of the place. No music whatsoever, and just a buzzing white-noise TV for an hour, it drove us absolutely insane.... but here's the kicker, ...that day was our 4 year anniversary, and it was a Monday and we just wanted a simple lunch. So all things considered, i'm just done...

First and last time going here. Food not impressive nor worth what we paid. Kids cheese burgers were more like "sliders" not to mention considering how small they were they weren't cooked well done and were very visibly pink inside. My kids waited some time for replacement burgers and our order wasn't compensated. The mash potatoes were cold and the french dip sandwich resembled and tasted like just plain old deli meat heated up. The staff weren't very welcoming but clearly talked it up with what seemed liked the "regulars". Our bill was brought to us prior to finishing our meals and prior to asking if my spouse wanted to order more beverages. Also though most take it offensively to be carded I find it to be appropriate and responsible, our server did not card either of us for alcohol beverages and even placed a drink in front of me very pregnant when I ordered for my spouse. Definitely a disappointment. Best of luck to those who find...

As much as I like to support small businesses and locally-owned restaurants, I won't ever be going to The Sunshine Depot again. Our food took nearly 45 minutes and it wasn't very busy. Another table that came in after us got their entire meal finished and were out the door before we got ours. The worst part of it all was that when our food did finally did come out most of it was either cold, burnt, or just not what we ordered. The server was nice enough and I know it wasn't her fault that our food took so long. Another nail in the coffin for this place was that the owners were sitting at a table right next to ours talking about their website redesign while we were having all of these problems. I really hope one day they can get their act together because this place has been a staple of Elk River for quite some time, but for now I can't justify ever going back. The sad part is, this isn't the first bad...
