El Nopal Taqueria — Restaurant in Elkhart

Took my wife there for lunch today. All in all, a mixed experience. 4 seats inside, and a table outside. My wife had to wipe down our spot with a napkin because it was dirty. Service at the counter was very polite, and the food arrived quickly. I got a steak burrito. Plus? Taste-wise, one of the best burritos I've ever had in the area, bar none. Minus? The cook didn't cut all the way through the middle, the bottom layer was untouched. I mutilated it trying to separate the two halves, and ended up eating about a third of my burrito with a plastic fork. My wife got the quesabirria tacos with consume dipping sauce. Plus? The tacos were HUGE. Pretty tasty. Minus? The consume was bland. Save your money and just use the complementary dipping sauce/salsa. Given the size of the establishment, its not surprising that there is no bathroom, but some wet napkins would be nice. Final thoughts? I'll be back. That burrito was delicious. This is by far the best Mexican restaurant in Elkhart. Their birria is to die for and their consomé is flavorful and bold. Their red tamales are amazing, and when they're in stock their tamales verdes will leave your mouth watering. The restaurant is very small. You should expect to order to go and only sit down here if you're flaco.

Their horchata is also very good, it has a perfect blend of sweetness and cinnamon. I've yet to try their agua de Jamaica but when I go there again I can't imagine it'll disappoint me.

Their service is amazing and they speak Spanish and English very well.

If they're too busy, you'll have to park by the side of the road or in Family Dollar's parking lot as the parking lot is very small. (About 4-6...

Well this is the most authentic, actual, real, Mexican food just like I grew up with... Everything about this place is perfect.... Well I guess the tortillas could be just a little bit thicker but I can't complain they're wonderful The sauces are wonderful The meats and seasonings are wonderful and I'm one who prefers no flubber and gristle in my food I can't say enough about what a wonderful experience this place is if you really want true authentic absolutely 100% real authentic Mexican food.... please...
