King Gyros Cassopolis St. — Restaurant in Elkhart

I hate doing reviews like this. Because I used to LOVE this place. But I also Love Gyros and if I am going to do this will be as through and constructive as I can. While I was there today I got a Gyro plate extra pita and some cheese sticks. The cheese sticks and bbq sauce was as good as I remember. The Gyro was bad, real bad. Here is a list of the things wrong in my opinion. Meat was chilly. Not cold but heat lamp warm. Plus it was wet like it had been boiled. Missing that char that I love so much. This made it taste off. Onions were harsh standard white onions. I am used to the onions being in water or what ever they do to take the sting out of them. Cuecumber sauce was thick like peanut butter. It was served on the side and almost broke my plastic knife. I eventually had to try and dip the pita into the cup to get some out. Listen I am not a complainer and I don't get confrintational. Went in ordered a number one with an extra pita. The meat was literally so cold. It was unedible.My dog wouldn't even eat it!! Only tomatoes with a cup of ranch on the side. That's what I asked for that is not what I got. I got the ranch smothered all over the gyro To where it was literally dripping Off, you could not take a bite without ranch going all over your hands. That's not what I asked for I didn't ask for red tomatoes that were Yellow inside and so hard you couldn't bite through them. I didn't ask for any of that. We have been on a 8,000 mile journey around the US and this place is top 3 of restaurants we ate at. Why? Price, portions and taste. Rib tips were full of grilled flavor, both dogs were loaded, gyro was as good as any we've had anywhere. Burger, fish sandwich, fries and coleslaw were average but the price made them better. The cheesecake was better than most chains but the baklava was over the top delicious. They add a spice to give it that special taste. Those who live here are lucky to have a place like this.
