Harry's Place — Restaurant in Elkin

My family and I were traveling home from vacation and decided to give Harry's Place a try for dinner this evening. It was a little difficult to find, as it is located "off the beaten path." The food smelled delicious, and we unfortunately never got to try any!

As we stepped through the enteance, we assumed that we should wait to be seated. Several employees passed by us without instruction or greeting. Admittedly, they were very busy, but during the 10 minute wait, you expect to be noticed. We noticed patrons, who were familiar with the procedure for getting a table, signing a clipboard hanging from the meat locker.

Pretty good little dive. Sometimes it takes awhile to get a table. If you're in a hurry, go somewhere else.There is a small bar that you can wait in, but it too, can be full. The boiled shrimp is usually good. It's a hit or miss. The first time I ordered it, it was out of this world with flavor, and there was a lot of old bay. The second time, it was pretty bland. 3rd time was another charm. I don't like the seasoning that they put on the steak ( some kind of marinade, like A1?) anyway, the next steak that I ordered, I asked them to keep it plain, and they did:) A little on the thin side, but pretty good.Just add salt. For lunch in Elkin today we went to Harry’s Place which has been there forever! It’s right on the train tracks and we watched the Elkin RR do it’s Noon run. Sitting that close to the train horn was a bit too loud but fun. I had a traditional cheeseburger with fresh made ground beef served with chips. I enjoyed a bottle of Green Man IPA! I also had a bowl of potato corn soup which was homemade that morning! My wife had the teriyaki chicken salad which she liked! Great local place for lunch! They have dinner 3....
