I saw this food truck while passing by Winegar's. I looked up the menu and was ecstatic with what I found: asian-american fusion with new and innovative ideas.
What I received was an enormous portion of absolutely delicious food. I ordered the "small" size of the Bibimbap bowl with pork, which came with generous portions of rice, kimchi cucumbers, carrots, and bean sprouts. I'm normally not a mushroom fan, but the owners gave me a little cup of their marinated mushrooms on the side so that I could try them, and I can now say that my mind has been changed!
All the vegetables are extremely fresh, with my favorite being the cucumbers. The pork is marinated in this lovely spicy apple sauce, adding the right amount of sweet to the salty. I will say that this dish is pretty salty, but in the best way possible. The layers of flavor from all the marinades and sauces blend well together and don't compete for your attention.
The owners, a lovely partner duo, are extremely friendly and passionate about what they do! Definitely ask them for suggestions if you aren't sure what to get. I normally don't tip for services where someone isn't serving my table, but I just had to leave a tip for these guys because they're just so kind. They really made my day.
Be warned if you're a student coming over from campus: because this is a food truck, there is no seating. However, you can always chill out on the benches in front of Winegar's or even inside Winegar's on a slow day, since they're pretty chill about outside food and drinks.
Also be warned that they're not in the lot next to Winegar's every day! Be sure to check their website or their socials for their schedule. They're very diligent about keeping that up to date, which is great.
I finish this review with an extremely full stomach and plenty of leftovers, despite ordering the "small" portion. I cannot wait to come back and try everything else...
Read moreGrowing up in Ellensburg, I have a soft spot for great community hangouts, and Whipsaw Brewing definitely fits that vibe. It’s a casual, welcoming spot with great home brews, simple industrial indoor space, and a relaxed patio outside where they often host local food trucks. We were lucky enough to visit when the Good Mood Food truck was there — and it did not disappoint! We had burgers and fries, but not just any burgers — I tried the spicy PB&J burger, which sounds a little unusual but was absolutely delicious. The fries were curry fries topped with curry sauce and a fried egg — messy, flavorful, and totally worth it (we definitely needed a lot of napkins!). Pairing it all with a cold Whipsaw beer made for the perfect Ellensburg afternoon. On top of the great food and drinks, the owners of both Whipsaw and Good Mood Food are great people, which makes the whole experience even more special. It’s places like this that remind me why I love coming back to my town. Easy access on and off I-90 if you want a break...
Read moreDO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND TRY THIS FOOD! Where do I start? This place has the food truck trifecta going: excellent service, excellent quality and excellent value for your money. The fact that their menu items have an Asian fusion is just the cherry on top.
I've had everything on the menu and Josh really knows his way around the kitchen. Here are my must haves: Katsu Curry - comfort food at a whole other level, Chicken donuts - your new favorite side dish, seriously he insults them by comparing them to a nugget when they are panko fried hand pounded pieces of perfection, and the chicken sandwich - ask for it spicy and you'll get something that's better than Popeyes and Chick-fil-A combined!
Let's talk about the prices. You ain't getting this quality of food in this big of portions for the miniscule prices he charges. Seriously, $18 for a meal that includes a drink and enough food for two meals is a great deal.
Check out Good Mood Food and tell them Oliver sent ya. You won't be...
