I have been a huge fan of Asian culture for most of my life. The problem with American's is we tend too Americanize everything and everyone else's culture, last night at Honey Pig in Ellicott City that changed! In mu favorite anime one of the major side character's loves Barbeque and how its served is fresh meat is brought too your table, where you have your pwn grill. This is not Hibachi where they cook in front of you, you actually have a small grill at your table, and you cook the meats/ veggies, seafood yourself! I have always wanted too try this and last night I did. On route 40 right passed the State Park there is a nice sized strip mall filled with Asian delights! Me and my fiance decided too have date night and after a game of bowling at Bowlero's we decided too go too Honey Pig. The name doesn't mislead with sweet cut's of marinated pork belly that melted in your mouth both the honey and the pig delivered. Leaving fresh brisket, and bulgogi ( excuse the spelling) too take care of the rest of the BBQ in the name 100%. The price of 35$ a person for just the BBQ fresh seafood, and fresh vegetables is more then 1 person could eat! Mind you we passed on the Hot Pot which if you add another 5$ gives way too all your favorite noodle dishes as well. I don't think I mentioned this, it's all you can eat ☺ ! Please do not let the water down memories of any Asian buffet you might have been too destroy any chance of you dinning here. This is an experience, that needs to be had, from all! The menu is very straightforward and our waitress Suzy was a delight. If you are new too this experience just pick one either the Hot Pot or the BBQ no need for both, ask your waiter or waitress too decide for you and let the feast commence! My fiance tapped out after the the third meat was cooked, leaving me too finish off the sweet and spicy gojang marinated pork belly for me too finish. Im a big guy weighing in at 250lbs and one serving of brisket, pork belly, bulgogi and spicy pork belly stopped me in my tracks. If your a middle class family this is probably a once in a special occasion place with the final bill including drinks and tip landing at 90$ it's money well spent! Don't let your eyes be bigger then your belly, trust me you will want too indulge but waste not! Thank you Honey Pig for an amazing experience and for extinguishing the horrible thoughts of Asian American buffets from my mind....
Read moreThis place got lamb chops. Yeah, they might not be as high quality as other restaurants but for a buffet?! Honeypig upped their game by providing better quality meats like the brisket being more marbled, hanging tender actually being tender, galbi properly marinated with the right ingredients, balanced out pork belly and their salad bar is always fresh. What I appreciate about their salad bar is, if you go to the back (near the dessert and hot food bar), you'll see they have a bunch of different banchan; cabbage kimchi, radish kimchi, cucumber kimchi, bean sprouts, all the ingredients needed for a proper ssam, green onion kimchi, tofu wrapped rice, noodles in cold broth and the list goes on. Again, honeypig stepped up and I'm impressed with the quality food aspect.
But I'm also impressed with the service; both ajummas are super fast and know how to cook the meats perfectly. The young guys and girls don't just linger around and stay on their phones, they actually do work - always something to do and I appreciate that.
What really hypes this place up is Alexa. She's the hostess for the restaurant, but goes out of her way to treat the customer right. The past few times I went there, she was always accommodating, understanding, and outgoing! Loved her attitude and enthusiasm when interacting with others. Everyone there is consistently great, but she's MVP. She deserves a raise at the very least.
No complaints, just happiness. Best AYCE KBBQ...
Read moreWe got the bbq, but i think if you go here do the hot pot for a better time-the options for it looked good. If you want bbq go to the other honey pig in the area. That place is fantastic every time. This one is….. Not so much 😓 everything was wayyyyy too sweet and also somehow bland? The flavor options were basically sugar and/or salt. If you want anything spicy you’ll have to dump siracha on it.
Attentive servers but not really in a good way? Since they wanted to do the grilling but weren’t good at it. If they’d let me cook the steak at least that could have been good since it wasn’t marinated in sugar (we didn’t even get the bulgogi - “spicy “ pork belly was not spicy and very sweet) the dude cooked the steak beyond well done. The pork jowl was good though especially the 2nd Round of it since i refused to let them touch it after putting it on the grill. Plus our first round if jowel was cooked by a different guy who seemed a little more competent at the grill, but he didn’t do most of our stuff so i cant say really.
The japchae would have been good but for sone reason they put a ton of black pepper on it?? Which was weird. Not terrible, but… why?
I tried all of the kimchi types they had, but none of it tasted fermented at all, just SWEET and almost no spice…
The other honey pig is right down the street practically and 1000 times better....
