We were visiting from out of town and not many places are open late so we picked your place solely because they had later hours than most places. I didn’t have high hopes because one of the locals didn’t have great things to say but as soon as we got out of the car That very distinct pizza smell, delightedmy olfactory senses! I haven’t smelled that smell in a while, but that smell is the quintessential perfect pizza shop smell. We are from Philadelphia and grew up with great pizza and there aren’t many shops like that around anymore. A lot of places are trying too hard to make pizza fancy and bougie. We walked in and sat down and I went up to look at the menu since they didn’t have paper ones. The gentleman that worked there could tell that I had never been there before so he let me know we just order up as the counter and then take it to your table when it was ready and sit down so at first we ordered some pizza and sandwiches, but then was told when we decided that it was after a certain time, but they didn’t make sandwiches. They were only doing pizza and Stromboli… So that was kind of sad. I understood but still. They probably don’t get a call for stuff like that because they’re not a great big town that we are used to. We settled on a pepperoni pizza and a pepperoni Stromboli. Let me tell you, we were also glad that they didn’t have sandwiches because we fell in love with the pizza. It was perfect. The sauce had an amazing flavor and it was thick but no chunks. The pepperoni was delightfully spicy, and there was a proper ratio of sauce to cheese. Me and my husband were staring at that last piece of pizza… I really wanted to be just rude and grab it for myself, but I did let him have it and he was very thankful… We were talking about how even though we were full we wanted to eat more! My husband spoke to the man working there and asked if he was from New York since it was supposed to be in New York style and the guy said he was from Jersey. This stuff is the real deal… It is delicious. Do not sleep on it. We won’t be back in Ellsworth area probably for another year, but I hope Finnelli’s will still be open and still serving up their delicious pizzas! My son did have a Stromboli and he left not a crumb so I will say that was good also. L O L! Decor inside is a bit worn and dated, but all that matters to me is the friendliness of the staff and the taste of the food so this place is two thumbs...
Read moreWe've been trying every pizza place in Ellsworth recently. Being a former pizza cook for many years, I am fairly picky when it comes to Pizza and often make it at home myself. Sometimes we like to go out. We decided to try finelli's this time. Despite the one hour wait time we were going to give it a shot. Any decent pizza place is going to have at least a 50 minute wait time on a Friday night anyway. After an hour and 5 minutes we went to pick up our pizzas one small cheese pizza and one medium carnivorous Rex Pizza,we still had to wait another 10 minutes because they literally put the pizzas in when we walked in the door to pick them up. Now I still understand how the business works and it was busy. the carnivorous Rex was delicious albeit the same size as my small pizza so I paid extra for a medium size and got the size of the 12 inch cheese. again it was busy so I'm sure the Joe didn't have enough time to get warm enough to stretch and stay at the size not the worst thing in the world.the cheese pizza however was burnt to a crisp with two large bubbles that pretty much took the cheese of the entire pizza. it was already 8:30 at night by then and I wasn't going to wait for a replacement that night. I ended up having to make something else for my kids who did not want to eat the cheese pizza. We called right back and after some negotiation and a few disgruntled words from the cook,Stephanie assured us we would get a replacement for both pizzas on Monday because she was working. Today is Monday and I call back for my replacement pizzas.for the record I never asked for a replacement for both pizzas but that's what they offered. Today they only replace the cheese whatever. They said 30 minutes, I figured I'd give them 35. I had to wait an extra 5 when I got there and my cheese pizza is Stone Cold. So I have to put it in my oven so my children can eat. Needless to say we will not be going back to this pizza place. Might I suggest Mike's country store or...
Read moreWhile the pizza was pretty good ( maybe a little over priced). The service was a weird mixed bag. The young man who took our order was completely fine. Pleasant, attentive, no issues. The young man who brought us our food was something else entirely. We heard him coming because he was scuffing his heavy work books on the floor. He handed my fiancee her pizza with a monotone "here's your pizza." And walked off. When mine came out almost 15 minutes later, he shuffled over and just handed it to me with saying a word. It was probably 80 degrees inside the building and he was wearing a dirty looking sweatshirt with a ball cap with a hood pulled up over it. Just not the look of someone I'd want handling any food. When I gave up waiting and went to go ask for a box, and older couple had walked in and was waiting ahead of me at the counter to order their food. Despite the fact that he was standing directly in front of them, he continued to scroll his phone on top of the sneeze guard until the woman spoke up and asked if she couple please order food. Maybe I'm missing something but thay guy just isn't a good look for a food service place. Also both bathrooms, once I foind them, we're pretty dirty. Visible dirt and crumbs all over the sink, and toilet paper stuck under the seat of the toilet....
