We have been there couple times since it opened. I really like Teishoku (Japanese set meal) in general but I always had hard time to find an authentic Teishoku place around East Bay.
Demiya not only has very authentic Teishoku (I order Karaage) but Japanese curry. I have also tried Omurice which is also very delicious and great portion.
The other reason I really like Demiya is that their dishes have a lot of details that you probably will not pay attention to but that’s the things make their dishes really close to authentic Japanese Yoshoku. (The salad, pickle, meat, and rice also how those were sorted…) It’s hard to run small business this day especially after pandemic. So when a lot of restaurants are trying to cutting things from their dishes, I’m glad Demiya tries to keeping those small things in their dishes.
I hope they can run the business long in public market. If you get bored on Super Duper, Pig in a Pickle, or Koja Kitchen next time, please give...
Read moreI ordered Tegone Cheese in Hamburg Steak Curry Rice. Maybe the steak was too chilled, it took them 23-24 mins to cook. The staff noticed my long waiting time so I am not complaining about the service. However, when it was already.... Who took my cheese? It's not even half a slice of cheese inside. (See pictures) I can accept the size of the steak; I can accept no Fukujinzuke; I can accept zero side. But I cannot accept no cheesy filling in my steak for $20! I ate other dishes in other locations and they were good.
Stay away from Cheese in Hamburg Steak Curry Rice. I made the mistake so that you don't need to order it. Absolutely not worth.
At last, the video (3 weeks ago) shows cheesy filling coming out is NOT true! Otherwise I won't leave this not so...
Read moreThe Demiya booth is behind the Pigs in a Pickle booth on the left, took me a second to find it. There isn't even an official Demiya sign above the booth yet? The staff were kind, not much atmosphere so to speak. The katsu curry was above average with a nice presentation, but a few things could be improved upon. The pork itself lacked salt, but it was fried wonderfully and piping hot. Curry is a bit more watery than I'm used to and quite salty even mixed with the rice. Half the menu was "out of stock", not sure the reason behind that as I went before the dinner rush. I chose the "very spicy" level for the curry, and I would say it's a 6/10 on the spice scale. Spicy but I'd call it medium. Really hoping to try the...
